Virgin Media Discussion Thread

So they are putting out routers which simply can't handle basic things like watching YouTube?

it's third party router. they never made it. how were they to know?

you think they thought one day, you know what lets go out and buy the worst modem/router possible and force it onto all of our customers.

they made a mistake and now they have invested a lot of money and are burying their heads in the sand.

they aren't some sort of evil company but they do have shocking customer service when stuff goes wrong. if you have no issues then they are amazing.

When the first and second customer testing groups kept flagging up this exact issue a nearly year before deployment. At that point they should have gone back to Arris to fix the problem or cancel the contact as the SH3 is clearly faulty in it's current form.

so they have some incompetent staff members who didn't do their research. hopefully they are sacked or demoted for their "honest mistake".

Can't seem to get to router status page.
Usually(with 2AC unit) i dont have to login and just click on "router status" before login in - but now nothing happens!!??

My bill came through this month and has gone up again to now £96. This is for TV XL, Talk anytime landline, and 200mb broadband (not the gamer fast one).
I find it too high so phoned retentions and they couldn't do anything so I'll be phoning to cancel. Shame, been with them since ntl.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say it was flagged up, but marketing insisted on going ahead because they wanted ads with the SH3, their hotspot network, and eventually their VoIP phones launched when they were scheduled. Virgin never let a major hardware fault stand in the way of a marketing launch.

My Superhub 2ac turned up on Saturday - except it wasn't a 2ac that I was promised, it was a Superhub 3. Apparently the 2ac stock has been completely depleted by requests from customers for a proper modem/router to be sent to them.

so i wonder what they are going to offer customers now that have the SH3?

they now need to deplete SH3 stock. you could just keep requesting again and again and hopefully that depletes the SH3 stock when you have 300 of them sitting in your attic.

Testing. As a major ISP there is no way they would approach a company then start sending it out to customers without a good real world testing means. A few posts after you wrote that there are comments that even the testers complained of this instance. Also, the third party shouldn't have come to market with a product that is as badly hindered as it is, they too should have tested to ensure there product was capable of doing what they have labelled it as.

Disappointingly if you search Google for "docsis 3.0 cable modem" the American sites all tout Arris as being "the best" make to go for, how on earth have they messed this up so well? Raises the question though if one of the other models would be usable in place of the SH3/2/1?

My address currently says
Great news! We’re on our way…
We’re excited to tell you that work has already begun on expanding our network to your community. We’re expecting to be able to connect this area to Virgin Media services very soon.
Im out of my 12 month BT contract and am paying through the nose at standard rates. Any idea if this would mean Im weeks/months/years away?

I'd take FTTC over VM any day of the week. I've no idea how long it would take VM to be with you but with all the reports of never ending congestion, borked modems and terrible customer service, why do you even want to consider it? I'd understand if all you had was slow ADSL. PlusNet have some good 12 month deals on the last I checked and combined with Topcashback you will save a lot over BT.

Just cancelled and there was no attempt at all to convince us to stay.

Probably will re-do the broadband and go for Sky for the TV given we've had no issues with Virgin here.

Having an Engineer sent out tomorrow, I do a lot of streaming and at the moment I my connection just cannot handle it. I have the Gamer package so it should not be a problem.

Anyone in north bristol having issues?

I'm currently getting 2Mbps down, and 5.96up on a 100MB package.

Also need to complain... as they downgraded me from 120MB to 100MB without even asking - pretty sure he managed to swing it during price negotiation and I didn't clock what he was saying. In my mind I was on the 100Mbit plan, and it was now 120Mbit, so when he said I can do 100Mbit for X I said ok.

I noticed that Virgin Media have launched a new business service, up to 350mbps. Upload is still limited to 20mbps. Surely it's got to the point where the download speed is now largely irrelevant and people want more upload? I went from 300mbps to 200mbps and have not noticed any difference; unless downloading a massive file from a few select sources that will max a 300mbps connection.
