Virgin Media Discussion Thread

So Virgin media advising customers to change details as apparently hackers are able to access the SuperHub2....

Seriously?
This should be standard practice in network security. Seriously who leaves all thier stuff as default? Well usually not very tech savy people but if your on this forum i'm certain you'll know how to acess the router's interface and do that. So what's the excuse. And you could do it for family and friends like i do. I also turn tr069 off too. Grab your details and configure it your self. If u need tr069 a router reset tends to enable it anyways.

guys ive been with VM for about 3 years or so and i noticed a few of u guys phone up to cancel and your offered newer and improved deals.

do u mind if i ask what u guys say to VM. i phoned up yesterday asking to cancel as i thought it was too expensive and i couldnt justify the cost compared to other companies and they told me that i would be liable for any cancellation charges i may incur

If your out of contract then the cancellation charges are nothing.

I just go to them and say this company is offering X for X I don't care about the overall speed just a decent service and price and every year I've had money off every month of my bill. Think I've only paid full price for my service once, all other months I've had discounts.

looks like i may have been going about it wrong then as i was basically saying look i want to cancel and go else where as its cheaper

What actually got hacked, some news sites if was the router login, others say the wifi password?
Nothing got hacked they are saying there is a security flaw in the SH2 (not sure if includes 2ac?) which means someone may be able to retrieve the router login, so is advising to change your router and wifi passwords.

ive never noticed anything. if its wifi password does it really matter as only people close by will be able to use them????
In theory if someone knew your wifi password they might be able to sniff traffic or set up an identical wifi with the same details which you could end up connecting to which would sniff traffic.

As I understood it they were all reporting on a Which article which talked about how Superhub2 with the default 'changeme' password left home networks vulnerable to hackers, Superhub3 aren't affected because they have their own unique passwords.

It's not so much a security flaw but cluelessness or laziness.

Same happend to the routers TalkTalk used. Apparently it was through a vulnerability of TR069 protocol so i just disabled that and changed passwords etc even though i had changed passwords anyway from default i just changed them again for general good network security.

But you still have to enter a PIN along with the changeme password, don't you? Not sure how they'd find your PIN without looking at your hub...

were the older sh1 not set to default as admin for the username and changeme for the password then on the sh2 it was changeme and the wps 8 digit number??

So I've been getting lag recently on my ps4. Tried some speed tests and getting 45mb down instead of 75. Also ping of 120ms.

A call to Virgin I suppose - am I going to be reminded of some ridiculous fine print?

I just renewed my Virgin Media, £30 for 150mb.
They've thrown in the Superhub 3, are the reports of it being appalling true?

I do game online a bit, so if it's better keeping my Superhub 2 then I'll do that instead

quick question, how do i find out how long my contract, if any, runs for with vm. can it be found online in your account???
I had a good poke around in the online account section and couldn't find anything, had to ring up and speak to billing in the end.

ok so called up VM again asking to cancel my package as i had a look around and felt i can get a better deal elsewhere. they organised for someone to call me back who duly did within about 40 mins.

managed to get my bill reduced from £78pm down to £74.

was advised the best course of action for the best deal would be to cancel my whole package and essentially come back as a new customer with a 30 day break between contracts or alternatively have someone else in the household become a VM customer and cancel my own package.

now i wonder what i can do with that saved £4 per month
