Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Ah, perfect thank you.

Didn't know if they still restricted some traffic despite saying no traffic management on the top tier.

That's because they make a spurious distinction between "traffic management" and "traffic shaping". Just like their redefinition of "unlimited" or their get out clause of "up to". By taking commonly understood words and changing their meaning to disadvantage the customer, they can continue to make big claims that they can't live up to.

FFS, so now it looks like a severe issue in the area affecting speeds, my newsgroup downloads are mad 2Mbps when it should be 24Mbps, Speedtest shows 200Meg connection but can't download at full speed at all, Virgin say they are working in the problem but it's complicated, the service page shows everything is fine, but it's not, not at all. Even got a text this morning saying the issue was fixed.

This is a joke.

I have been praying that VM will come to my street and today I got a visit/letter to say they start work this Sunday!!

The letter says that 200Mbps fibre will be available but I want 300Mbps! I currently have Plusnet unlimied fibre extra at 70/19Mbps. With a brand new BT Smart hub 6 the wifi is good but I still need more oompf! Is the VM router any good? Are there options?

How about the TV? Is it better/worse than Sky? Is there an upgrade available for the TV box?

Actually, that's not so true anymore. I'm a sky subscriber with VM for internet but my folks have the new V6 box so played with both extensively. It's wayyyy better than the old box so I'd disagree that it's much^4 worse. Maybe the old TiVo box, yes, but not now.

I'd strongly disagree.

After using it for 7 months, it's not as good as Sky at all. The V6 boxes are pants and just not intuitive to use.

95% of on demand films are in SD, you cannot get them in HD. The HD quality of move channels is not as good as Sky either, the movie channels can look poor sometimes.

You can't select a specific time of a recording to jump to, want to record the American football? Well if you have parental controls on any program recorded after 9 or before 6 needs a pin code to watch it.

There's a load of other stuff too, but it's just not as good as Sky.

You should really look into VM congestion on their network, you may find 200mb utterly useless in peak times compared to FTCT.

Just won myself a netgear r6400.
Needed to be able to modify DNS to use pihold which was not available through the superhub. Plus the WiFi down the hall was not up to scratch so should hopefully fix the issue.
We're on the 200/10 package now as well which was originally 100/10 but for the price of £7 we didn't have a choice on, we got "upgraded"

I'm not a big fan of Virgin TV to be fair, but you can switch that off.

Lol after having a problem with my internet for two weeks now I get an email saying my price is increasing by £4.50 a month.

GG Virgin

Ring them and select the option for wanting to leave and tell them you are not happy because of the price rise and want to leave. They will give you a discount right there that will not only cancel out the increase but lower your normal price too.

Maybe I'm trialling their retro broadband package, I mean retro is the in thing right now.

I'm on the verge of cancelling the lot, family hate the V6 box and keep on at me to get Sky again.
