Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Ages ago now, but as I recall...

A previous address I got VM fibre installed (re-cconnected, was already there) when I moved in.
In all the time I was there (6 months?) it only went down once around 0400 in morning, some local maintenance. I worked lates, so that was my early evening time of day.

Moved few times & current address, got it hooked up via VM again. It was sloooooow. Had it for around a year & would get cut off any time day or night for an hour or so once a week or two.
Towards end, it was a regular occurrence with "customer support" claiming "It's not us, must be your pc"
Me: "Which one? I tried on both systems, same result" only to be fobbed off.
At the end, it was down for over a week. CS said it was up, it clearly wasn't.
Second week I cancelled DD, emailed saying I had & was **** canning them.

One day I was about to head out when I saw VM van at junction box opposite my place, so waited. Soon as van left, turned on my pc. Surprise surprise, internot was working. Screw it, wasn't going through that again, lived without for ages ;)

Oh, also. We'd had letters at one point stating bills wouldn't rise but we (locally) were getting another 10m added to our DL speeds & 5 to UL.
Month or so later, bills went up, internot was the same.
Three months later, bill went up again, internot finally noted of "speed increase" which barely changed by2mbDL 0UL.
Shortly after, bill increased again.

Screw VM...

I did this last month... but when they rang they offered me 100mb + phone for £20 or 200mb and phone for £25. Went for the 200mb.

I think the key is to not accept retention's offer and let them put through the cancellation, they should contact you before the 30 day notice period.

The offer was a couple of days after I cancelled my Broadband and Telephone with them - I rejected the offer they initially gave and cancelled.

My current offer was a phone call a couple of days after i cancelled, looks like I could have done better :(

Anyone here from NI? Particularly in the northwest area? Currently being bombarded with the VM flyers trying to make us switch and I slowly gaining interest.
New lines were installed recently and just wondering if having new lines means no utilization problems which is quite a common problem from what Ive read.

They're marketing the 350 as a business plan

Got an email out of the blue today to a non existent email on my website. I guess they're scouting businesses in certain cities and spamming them at the info@ email address.

Well after a year of BT and my fantastic speed of 13 Mbps on infinity I've switched to Virgin as well. Get the package tomorrow but I'm worried my area is over subscribed but I don't really do a lot of online gaming in the evening.

System was originally made for TV so all about a TV signal coming to you so like a stream/download as upload/upstream cost them more money hence back in the day far slower ADSL had better upload that we did on Cable which were like 128k/256k upload on TW-BY & NTL 512Kb/s Tiers.

Think my TW-BY 10Mb/s was 384Kb/s upload but they are said to be going back to the 10/1 Ratio and 350Mb/s in Ireland is 350/35 AFAIK.

Went back to Virgin after 2 years with Sky. Only took me two days to cancel Virgin as they have severely over subscribed my area once again, turning my 300mb into 40mb and packet loss during peak times.

All good fun. not.

It's even worse if the business routers have the Puma 6 chip. I mean ive seen loads of people ring up while i was at plusnet complaining the speed at which it takes to get a engineer out and such is not acceptable while on residential internet so i told them why dont you sign upto business then? You get priority next day engineers and better care due to you been business dependant. But if virgin has this issue on their business service i can see it hurting their sales. Surprised they don't seem to care getting it resolved. Or even acknowledging it to resolve it.

I very much doubt it, you read this thread about the SH3 and it's all doom and gloom yet when I game online I don't appear to get any of the issues that people state in here.
