Please bear with me, the partition that I started to install Vista on has been formatted, how would I go into Vista? At boot I think I can install the Dvd and access Vista recovery console, but I don't know what to do in thereKerplunk said:To edit your Vista boot options you need to go onto Vista.

If you right click my computer - properties - advanced - startup & rec. settings
Do you have just XP on there dropdown ?
Bony Maloney said:Yes just Xp Pro
Kerplunk said:Ok, need some clarity here for just a sec, so basically you cant remove the Vista options from the Boot Manager, correct?
I haven't tried, not sure how
You tried to install it but it didnt have it.
Correct x2
Now you have 2 dud vista boot options and a working XPpro.
Correct
I appreciate your patience.
Ok will try, just before I do, it is trying to boot into Vista 1st so if I loose my options and this is the case how can I get back into XP?Kerplunk said:Ok, try this, in the boot.ini file you can change the timeout to '0' from '30' - thus causing no options.
I appreciate that it isnt exactly an out and out fix but It may be something to consider?

Also is it possible to install Vista on a secondry drive or does it have to be on the primary ide?
It boots to the option page with a Vista OS highlighted, if I don't select my "earlier "OS which is XP it goes to a loader page and tells me about a possible error prompting for the install of the OS dvd/cd and opening the start up recovery console. With a few other details:Kerplunk said:You can install it on a secondary hdd, yes.
My setup is XP on Sata HDD and Vista installed on a IDE HDD.
I allowed XP to boot first with Vista being an 'option'.

File:\Windows system 32\winload.exe
