Vista Beta 2 Goes Public Today

I'ts aout as stable as a 3 legged chair on my laptop. The problem im sure is with either graphic or network drivers. How can i get it to install the drivers I want instead of its own? it installs my adeon drivers but its using its own. My Belkin card is the same, it installs some other drivers for that too.

3 legged stools are very stable... :p

It was about the same on my laptop when I installed it. I shoved another 1Gb RAM in there to boost it to 1.5Gb in total. It helped a lot, but my desktop is still far more stable.

Installing the Catalyst drivers from ATi should replace the default MS driver... but I haven't personally noticed any difference between the two. You can still pick your own drivers to install in Device Manager, as in previous versions of Windows.

i had this when clicking on the download link with their download manager or whatever. chose the other link instead and it suddenly worked

side note, the program you run in Vista to rate your PC - is there one for XP users? i dont mean the checker on MS site which tells you about your hardware drivers etc but the one that rates your PC

guess your lucky, i have tried both links, tried renaming before i save  i can get the 32bit one fine thats whats irritating. i have googled it and it looks to be a common problem but no solutions as yet.

for playing games on this beta should the game be set to xp compatibility mode?
just wondering because call of duty 2 wouldn't even give me 1fps :o
unless page file was eaten alive, that could explain the bad performance

Is it installed ... C:\ Program Files etc ?

No not installed in C:\. I've tried the other suggested version and a few others and no luck. They keep giving me a driver error message.

For those having trouble downloading from MS...

Code:
Length: 3,355,598,848 (3.1G) [application/octet-stream]

10% [=====>                                                         ] 344,399,295  780.96K/s  ETA 1:03:51
Fear not....mirror coming soon....bye bye to my server I guess. We'll see :)

Edit: Whoo, one server managed to get the 64-bit file. They're all run by Akamai and its dynamic DNS system, so it looks like the downloads are partially corrupt (maybe deliberately due to heavy, heavy traffic) on some of their servers.

I managed to get it downloaded using a proxy, then I had the fun of it blue screening before I could install it. Took about 4 hours to get it installed due to the strange nature of the problem. It seems a good operating system only problem I have now is there aren't any drivers for my wireless adapter

On another forum, people were saying the download went on after that 13.7MB file. Worth checking.
It's all down to what software you use to download it. Some software will have 2GB or 4GB file size limits due to bad design/bugs, and if you use one of them to download 64-bit Vista, you'll stop... guess where...

13.7MB

13.7MB

can you suggest a good one for me to try ?

Removed per Microsoft posted Cease and Desist notices.

Edit: As for the file size limit - double check you're not on FAT32 - Firefox 1.5.0.4 is working fine here on NTFS with the evil 64bit download.

What can I use to 'open' the iso, as my laptop doesnt have a DVD burner...

thanks

if you have a free partition with at least 15gb free space and want to dual boot, simply mount the iso image within your current windows install using daemon tools. run setup and follow the prompts. easy. :)

I should really get around to installing the half dead raptor and partioning the good 20GB and try vista... I've got the beta2 downloaded on the raid5 array.. hmm... I think this will be the first DVD I've ever burnt lol.
