VISTA is on its way!!

HI there

Nope we don't do the upgrade or retail versions. They basically never sell as they cost over twice as much.

Surely Vista should last about 5 years or something though. I doubt there's many people on here who won't upgrade at least once in the next 5 years, so the retail/upgrade would actually be cheaper than 2 OEM licences. Unless prices are set to fall a lot.

I guess I'll have to go elsewhere as I'll be looking for an upgrade package.

I may have missed this, in which case I apologize, but is it still necessary to purchase a piece of hardware at the same time as the OS? Or can I get the OS on it's own now, even though it's OEM?

If I can order on it's own, I will be pre-ordering straight away.

Hi there

Just to clarify Vista OEM is identical to XP OEM in regards to changing hardware etc.

When you change your motherboard at the moment with XP it too will demand you get a new re-activation and/or license. Yet just as I myself have done you just call them, tell them your PC crashed and they give you a new key over the phone. Hence problem sorted. :)

P.S. As you guys are asking for it, I shall get the Retail and Upgrade versions on the site too. :)

those prices are tempting if UEA doesnt upgrade its academic license to vista...or they only get basic (they better not lol)

Also don't forget you can upgrade your edition at any time :) It makes sense to buy Home Premium and then upgrade to Ultimate at a later date if you need to.

Won't that be a lot more expensive than just getting ultimate straight away? or can you do it online or something?

Hi there

You do it via Microsoft online, no ideas on pricing but I can't see MS having your pants down. ;)

It's done online. The CD content is exactly the same between all editions. The only difference is your CD KEY that unlocks parts of the OS functionality. When you upgrade, all that happens is that new OS features get unlocked and you are then able to install them.

very nice to, want to see how much the retail prices are before i place my order. gona go for ultimate and be done with it. full retail if the price allows!

remember when loads of people were throwing a hissy fit about the suposidly "ridiculous" prices, very good value indeed!

If you buy the retail version, do you get the 32-bit and 64-bit versions together? There are still a lot of us with 32-bit CPUs out there.

It was probably their first time of "living through" a Windows release cycle. They get easily confused about all the pricing, Retail/OEM and the currency conversions, etc. Damn youngens! :)
