So you have to choose between the 32-bit or 64-bit versions? I thought they'd both be on the same disc :/

I thought this too, in fact i read it in micro mart the other day, whats the story Gibbo???

and remote desktop! I couldn't live without that, so I will be getting Ultimate Edition :)

What does it do? It doesn't seem to be part of XP Home, so maybe I don't need it, as I haven't noticed a hole that only it could fill :)

Hi there

Yes only with OEM version!!

With Retail which will be live very soon on our site when you do the installation you choose which version you install (32-bit or 64-bit). :)

What will i need with an E6300, 64bit?

And also whats the difference between home basic and premium.
Home Basic doesn't have the Aero interface so most of us would want to avoid it I expect.

It is for using your computer remotely over your network or the internet.

They're on separate discs for OEM, this is the case on MSDN also.

With retail, I think Gibbo has already said that both are included, but you're license will only work with one at a time for obvious reasons.

What isn't clear, that I can see. Is if you purchased Retail installed on a 32bit machine, then upgraded to x64 - if this is possible with the retail version.

As long as the XP upgrade was used in conjunction with another qualifying product such as Windows 98 OEM or retail.

Can't explain how they work but they give a nice performance boost to Vista. :)

Readyboost is basically a harddrive cache that can be addressed in a very short amount of time. They are used to get around the lag that harddrives have seeking to the correct sector and track of the disk. If your PC does a lot of intermittant pages to disk, for example if you don't have GBs and GBs of RAM, you'll see a noticable improvment.

Hmmmm £220 for the retail version of Premium....

Just as well I just bought a new DS3 and won't be needing to upgrade for a while. Looks like OEM may be the way forward.

Well it's home premium retail for me then! I assume you acept mastercard?

Let's face it how many times are you going to change your operating system? With retail you only have to buy it once and it will last 5 years until the next windows comes out throught all your upgrades.

I will get home premium now for approx £200 or whatever the prices on OC will be and get Vista Ultimate for free for MSDNAA when I got to university in october. All good.

Don't bet that you'll get the ultimate edition from MSDNAA, it'll most likely be business edition or enterprise.

You're probably right. I'll use the enterprise on my laptop then and the home premium on my PC with 3 TV tuners.
