Vista only for Halo 2!

exactly, all i want my OS for is so i can play a few games, surf the internet and do my homework on it. Likewise, I'm sure thats what most people want from an OS. If you want an OS that looks good, download windows blinds or something

I agree with what you're saying about OS's. However you are forgetting that the Vista GUI should actually be far less power hungry than the current XP one. Remember that it is now being rendered by the video cards GPU as opposed the the CPU in XP.

Drag around a window in XP and watch your CPU usage shoot up to 99%. In Vista this won't happen. Not only should it look prettier but it should do so with no performance cost and in fact be even more efficient. :)

ill go buy a xbox for £100 then buy the game then so that going to cost me £130 to a whole new upgrade. hasnt bill gates got nuff money i dont see why every one has to upgrade and buy windows vista just for that.

Exactly. I could not have put it better myself. I look at Vista as a waste of time. To me it seems like a prettier XP that Microsoft can market as "The best O/S ever". I also see Vista has Microsofts "HAHA, were going to release O/Ss faster than Apple, so were better". It makes me feel sick when companies like Microsoft still crave money when they are billionaires. Call me silly, but I did want an XBox, but I didnt want to give Microsoft anymore of my money. I really do prefer Apple, so I guess you can call me an Apple Fanboy. The only piece of Apple hardware I own is an iPod, but Im making sure my next computer is a Mac, simply because I think its a better O/S. (What Im about to say I base on what I hear, so prove me wrong if you can) Ive never heard of aVirus, or piece of spyware made for OS X recently, not one. If you look at OS X, its much better looking than XP nad Vista IMHO, and yet doesnt require someone wanting to write and EMail to get a new graphics card theyll never use. I mean sure, they can turn the fancy GUI off, but that just proves the Vista is pointless. Like other people on the forum, I simply want an O/S that is good at keeping my system secure, and stable. XP offers me this, and Vista just sounds XP with a pretty Aero GUI that you can get from Windowblinds using an Radeon 8500! This Halo 2 for Vista only, makes me think that Microsoft are scared about the sales of Vista, so theyre resulting to desperate measures.
To conclude, I think I know have different requirements, that Microsoft are just not offering me. My next PC will be an Apple no doubt.

^^ With all due respect mate there is far more to Vista than its new GUI.

Ok it got new features but they could have made it so you didnt have to buy new hardware. It like with all the other version they made them and ive never had to upgrade unless ive wanted to now they do. To me its more ways of makeing money because i think compays wil have to pay some to microsoft to make the parts vista compatable so that mans we wil have to pay more for the parts. Its just becomes an expensive game.

But they are a company. Making money is the aim of companies you know. :p

I don't understand how you can prefer apple computers without ever having used one.

The only reason there are less virus's and spyware us because the user base of Windows XP is so much higher. If you're a virues writer you want maximum exposure. You want the virus to spread as much as possible. Therefore you code a virus to infiltrate the OS with the largest user base.

I sincerely hope it is the right choice for you. :)

Of course it is a way for them to make more money. But it's called progress. If all everyone wanted to do was surf the net and write a few emails then there would be no point in hardware manufacturues making faster CPU's graphics cards etc. All microsoft are doing is making use of the more recent hardware developments. This has always been the case and always will be. An OS is released, hardware moves on, a new OS is then released which harnesses the power of the new hardware... And so on and so on. Apple do exactly the same you know. It's how technology moves forward. :)

Also just one other point I would like to make. The single biggest thing you are accusing Microsoft of (the forcing you to spend more money thing) is the thing that Apple are even worse about. Remember that in order to run an Apple OS, you need Apple hardware. With microsoft the hardware can be from any manufacturer. So with each new mac os that is released you have to go directly to Apple in order to upgrade your hardware, giving them more money. Sounds even naughtier to me dude! :p

Having said all this I do agree that it is ridiculous that Microsoft are making Halo 2 Vista only. I doubt that will truly happen though.

I think you'll find MS have about 20 game titles that are going to be VISTA only.. as i know of a few UK developers making them. Also MS are really trying to push exclusive titles on the vista platform, bit like a new console etc.

Its largely becuase of the special copy protection etc that is has will hopefully try and stop pirating. Cant really see it working myself as they always find a way round it.

People seem to forget about the hardware upgrades that are probably gonna be required for vista as well then.... Ah sod it... might as well buy a new PC for ahlo 2 lol! :( Like i give a rats bum anywho. :D

Well the hardware requirements were increased for Windows XP too. XP uses the Windows 2000 kernel which in turn was based on the NT kernel. There were some radical differences between 'Me' and 'XP'. The sort of stuff which goes on 'under the hood' and which ultimately lead to a far more stable OS than 'Me'.

The hardware requirements for Vista are not that much higher than those for XP to be honest. A mid range CPU with 512mb RAM should be okay-ish. The only difference is that if you have a DirectX 9.0 compliant video card then you get the new fancy desktop. Directx 9 capable cards are dirt cheap now so thats not really an issue, but if you don't have one already and don't want to buy a new then I believe you can just turn the new GUI in Vista.

Most of us probably won't need to upgrade at all. We may want to however. :p

Just wait...thats all I can say..

Guess which out of OSX and Windows XP has had the most security exploits in the past year?

Thats right...the big Apple...

It's just that Windows is more common - so thats the main target. :D

Same with Firefox - less secure than IE. :D *Opera better than both though. ;)*

As for Halo2 on Vista only - why not?
Flagship title on their flagship OS...

No different to what Apple or anyone else does. Wouldn't surprise me if it gets 'modified' though.
