***VISTA SP1 RELEASED TO GENERAL PUBLIC***

"news.com reports that Microsoft is withdrawing SP1 for Vista. Nick White, Microsoft product manager blogged 'We've heard a few reports about problems customers may be experiencing as a result of KB937287,' wrote White. 'Immediately after receiving reports of this error, we made the decision to temporarily suspend automatic distribution of the update to avoid further customer impact while we investigate possible causes.'"

Where did you get that quote from? The article you mention doesn't say anything of the sort.

It is the pre-requisite that is being withdrawn, not the service pack itself.

Mine is downloading now - Vista Ultimate x64. I did a check for updates and it said no updates available so 1 min later I did it again but this time it had the SP1 update available...weird :S

On a side note, once this is downloaded does anyone know how to save the file(s) that were downloaded?

Just to clarify - you do not need to install the "pre SP1" hot fixes. You can install SP1 and then Windows Update will show that there are no more updates to install because you already have them all.

The "pre SP1" hot fixes will persist for a short time whilst Microsoft supports both Vista RTM and Vista SP1 machines.

Why does the info for this say SP1 Beta? This is through windows update...

Well SP RTM and SP1 RC2 both just continually show the Vista loading screen for me.

No big deal I can just put the pre SP Vista image back.

Strange I have been trying to get SP1 for 2 hours now and it just wont show then just now I see it says one update and get all excited only to find it is a defender update!!!

What's going on!?!?

Engadget is reporting its only for x64 users at the moment but im sure ive seen someone in this topic on x86 saying they had it.
