I'm really annoyed with how misleading the letter was and the fact it didn't even mention any activation fee's in the small print.
Also being a customer with them for years now and never had to pay anything for these free upgrades before it's a little irrating :(

Noticed this though, not sure if someone already posted it but it kind of answers a couple of question I had. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Fibre-optic-broadband-cable/30Mb-Upgrade-FAQ/m-p/322871

I just don't know what to do now. Stick with 20Mb paying £1.50 more than 30MB!? Pay £30 activation and get the 30Mb and superhub or pay £35 and get free activation, superhub and 50MB
Did anyone else that didn't already have the superhub and upgraded to 50Mb get free activation???

Is the Super Hub any good? Current dlink router is a bit naff with signal strengths. Wouldn't mind paying the £30 if it frees up a plug socket and is a decent enough peice of kit.

Having a read on various cable forums it looks to be a real mixed bag.

Some people say they have no problems at all with the superhub and get the full advertised speed. Other people get regular drop outs on the superhub or need to restart it all the time.
There are people that are getting slower speeds than they had on their 20Mb and are telling people to hold fire on the upgrade. Some others complain of bad wifi signals compared to their old standalone routers.

I'm thinking how I'm going to play it. I might try my luck with the retentions team and see if the 50Mb could be had for a better price. The risk of the hub being duff (or could be lucky and it be great) is maybe worth it for the speed increase. If not then I reckon I will stick with 20Mb for the next few months and see how things pan out with updates to the hub etc and then eventually go to 30Mb.

I would certainly want to stick with my dlink dir 655 anyway as it's the best router I've had so far and only gets a restart every 6 months or so.

As has been mentioned many times already, the one off fee is for some admin fee and nothing more. The only thing you have to pay for is the USB N adapter but only if you want it...

Definately not free, although one could argue that it doesn't say "free" anywhere apart from the superhub. The letters and info on their site certainly gave the impression there was no charge for the speed increase.

It would have made more sense if they had of kept the price at £30pm and not charge the activation fee. They don't seem to charge for it on the 50Mb contract.
Btw The N adapter is only free if you go for 50Mb

I've decided now anyway to swallow my pride and pay the £30 :p

Never had any problems with any services such as torrents and such like and happily DL from news servers at 2.3MB/s currently with the upload at 2Mb (250KB/s) . Just hope I don't get any problems with the new network like some people have experienced.

I shall be tweaking the superhub and using my dlink for routing purposes.

I gather as I'm already getting 2Mb upload in my area I should also see the increase to 3Mb straight away.

How long did your superhubs take to arrive following the go ahead phone call?
