VOUCHER CODE DEALS CONCEPT PLAN!

Nice one. Just noticed this happening. I look forward to trying to get a rx 6700xt at a sensible price :)

OCUK trying to help there more loyal forum members.

"If this goes well and the voucher code is not abused and we see steady sales, we shall then also make some SKU's available at a lower price with the use of a voucher in this public forum that all members will get a chance to buy, but rest assured if people decide to leak the voucher code and we see BOT's attempting to buy, the simple fact is this concept idea will then get pulled and won't be repeated."

My point still stands, give those with 1000+ posts a chance first and any cards left will be offered to all members ?

;)

Thats not what it says maybe your glasses fell into your cornflakes and obscured your view. ;) Everyone wins (with a little patience) case closed.

Wow @ some of the comments.

They are doing a great thing. Stop being selfish. If you don't have the post count or only joined a few months ago that's not an ocuk problem tbh. Stop trying to ruin it for everyone else.

The sense of entitlement grows stronger each day with this generation. If you don't like it go buy on eBay for £1500 which ocuk could be doing with their stock tbh just shoving it on an official ocuk eBay page and auction to the highest bidder.

Seriously some people need to get a grip. Trying to ruin this for others.

i am just a normal user(can have my facebook profile if you wanna convince yourself).Yes i am mad about excluding most of your customers and making this an exclusive deal for a small proportion.I do not want to go in detail about the legal aspects of this practice ,but as someone that works in the field i can tell you this is totally wrong and unethical.

"works in the field".................what ? you mean your the office cleaner for a solicitors practice ? OCUK, the same as any other retailer is perfectly entitled to sell what they want to who they want to. Pub landlords have been doing the same for the last 300 years. So don't try claiming they are wrong from some quasi legal aspect when you are talking complete BS.

We sold 80 cards in ten minutes using a voucher code only available via a private forum link....and still we only have 47 of the orders fully downloaded.

Is it any wonder that thousands of people trying to buy the same cards at the same time when 3080 launched crippled those systems?

Maybe next time I say that our current systems cant cope with the current demand levels, people will start to believe me ;)

I think it's fair to say that a lot of people are underestimating the actual level of end user demand and miners probably aren't the main issue.

Can you define what you mean by "downloaded" ? Interested to hear on a technical level the bottlenecks you are having to deal with, with your IT systems. I feel for you, and have been in that place where you are in too deep and need a big overhaul.

Have you had a quick look at the 80 cards sold and seen how many of them got free shipping? This can be translated to real forum members (apart from those in NI who get no free shipping) to see if you had a leak of the code somewhere. I had a look at discord channel (I am only on one, there may be many) and I have seen people talking about what is going on, but there is no current posting I can see of the code.

Someone above mentioned about the voucher code possibly being cracked. I'm not sure how feasible this is in the small time frame window on a live website with latency and competing traffic, but is it possible that BOTs could use the very GPUs we are trying to buy ironically to brute force attack the voucher code at several billion attempts a minute to eventually crack it if it is simple? Perhaps it would be an idea to make the code quite long with upper and lower case alphanumeric.

nothing unfair about it at all

I sell lots everyday and pretty much every customer pays something different for the same items infact I can even make it up as I go along

Why not? You're the one that brought it up.

Great idea. Many of us have been here for well over a decade and have spent some time here over the years. I realise many won't have done, but 100 posts a year for 10 years is not much at 2 posts a week.
Sucks for those who lurked, but given the situation out there right now and the systems they are struggling with, I think this is a GREAT idea of at least trying to give something to the community who at the end of the day are part of the reason for OCUKs success.

I hope it goes well and the sour few don't ruin it. In an ideal world, with an ideal system, they'd have more options, but at least they are trying!

great idea, its good to see something like this in 2021 where so many people take advantage of a really ***** situation. to all of the sour grapes; go on a posting spree.. why else are you on the forum if your not gunna be posting? you are never in a million years going to come up with a fare system where someone isn't excluded. whilst a few people will be unfortunate, think of how many people who will get cards which would have gone to a bot for reselling... we can do without the whole selfish attitude that is why we are kinda of in this mess in the first place.

Those who are sour should real my post in graphics forum, I made it clear if it’s a success we will try it in the general forum.

If all goes to plan tomorrow we will do a 6700 XT in the MM tomorrow and if that goes smooth then next week we will make a 6700 XT with a large volume of stock available to the general forum and if that goes well great but if the code leaks out then we will keep it to MM only until that fails.

Do you work for OCUK ?? LOL

If you see my posts you will see its well under the 1000+ count, from what I understand from the OP was 1000+ Posts PLUS at least 6 months member of the forums. But still if you read my comments properly you will clearly see that I am referring to the members who are under the 1000+ posts required AND been a member for years (some 10+ years)

I wanted a 6800xt and a 6800xt is what I got, installed in my machine in December. Unforunately I did pay over the odds for it but I am happy, but thanks for your concern :)
I suspect using the MM as the trial is because it's the simplest way to do it.:)

The MM criteria has been in place for years and it doesn't require a massive effort for the store staff to do, even just creating a new user group on the forum can be "fun"* as there are a bunch of subgroups and it would require testing, whilst the MM group is known to work fine as a way to restrict who can see stuff.

It's the easiest, fastest and probably only way to do something like this in the short term and for a test of the idea a great idea imo.

*Last time I tried it, it resulted in one forum sub section disappearing for some user groups for a while.

As they say you can only work with the tools that you got (there was another phrase there but the profanity filter made it look bad) but all I was trying to suggest or help raise awareness of is that some of the older members (who have less than 1000 post count) may feel upset or put out by this method and feel their loyalty worthless as they may have been shopping with OCUK for years.

In all honesty either way doesnt bother me, I got what I was after last year (5800x and 6800xt) so not personally looking to buy anything at the moment, just giving my two cents to try help :)

The RRP is $329 on these and you put them up at £359.99 - I personally think that's a great deal? What do people expect?

StuartC999 - I think the point here mate is that if Gibbo just dropped them on the site, the stock alerts would go mental and they'd be snapped up instantly and relisted on ebay.

It's not ideal to cut out a portion of your customers but at least this way the cards are going to "proper" customers rather than being instantly scalped, then everybody loses out.
