Hi everyone, I want to use a VPN specifically for my LG Smart TV to change my streaming region. Is it possible to install a VPN app directly onto WebOS, or do I have to set it up on my router? Looking for the easiest method. Thanks

The problem is content providers don't want you to do that, and as such, they play a game of cat and mouse with VPN providers. You could try a smart DNS service, or doing it at the router level, if you have a docker host, try setting your TV to use a proxy and point it to a suitable VPN container, but sooner or later commercial providers will pick up on commercial VPN providers ranges and block them, even the ones that claim otherwise still have the same problems from time to time.

Worth mentioning it's a lifetime price, you keep renewing, it stays the same.

Yup. I'm on the lifetime Pro with Windscribe, and I can't complain with the speeds or the latency (IKEv2, macOS)!
ETA: BTW, I'm paying $19/year. Keep an eye out for the deals.

I’ve managed to set up a VPN specifically for my Smart TV, and traffic does appear to be going through the VPN tunnel. However, I am running into what looks like a DNS leak (or something similar) that I can’t seem to control.
The issue is that the TV still keeps connecting to servers in London, even though the VPN endpoint is in a different region.

I think the $19/yr price is probably behind us, that said the people who got lifetime via StackSocial etc. years ago got an amazing deal. Also IKEv2 and macOS is not the combination I would expect you to be running, but then again for general use, it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

When I'm out and about with my M3 MacBook Air (we're in Devon a lot lately due to a terminally ill relative), IKEv2 is the only protocol that really makes sense. It's the only kernel-level protocol, meaning I can run a single charge for the whole three-day weekend on hotel WiFi without worrying about WireGuard eating my charge. My phone and everything else sit behind WireGuard on FreeBSD or Linux. ;)

Hey folks, NordVPN user here and I'm potentially looking to switch since my renewal is coming up.

Just wanted to know how other VPN providers like SurfShark are when it comes to YouTube. I find I often have to hop around different nodes on NordVPN before I find one that YT doesn't block. Do folks on SurfShark and other VPNs have the same issue and how bad is it?

If i have my VPN youtube works as normal, although for some reason the F1 channel detects it and doesn't play unless it is turned off..

No issues with Proton Albania. You can try the service for 1 month for 90p.

I've never bothered before, but considering investing in a 'proper' VPN now.... (use Proton free tier occasionally for...erm... reasons)

Been looking at PIA and Surfshark mainly, both at the lower end of the pricing scale with sign up offers (/youtuber referrals).
Both claim to be strictly no-log policy that's been independently audited.
PIA seems to win a bit on features (split tunnelling, possibly easier to set up at router level*), though are US based.
Surfshark are EU (NL) based.... and honestly that was my main reason in favour of them :P

Any obvious problems with either of those? Or anything notably better for not too much more £?

*that's assuming router level is something worth worrying about... most things I see suggest I won't get full 1gbps speed on a modestly priced router using Wireguard or OpenVPN!
Otherwise, as long as it has WIndows, Linux and (fairly old) android support I should be ok.... although would also be nice to cover any other devices that are on my WiFi but out of my control (guests, work laptop etc.)

Presumably one that also only takes bitcoin or cash in a brown envelope?

A credit card is far more revealing than an email address….

Exactly. You don’t have to use one of those if you choose. However for convenience I’m sure most people do it through the App Store.

I know you were trying to be smart there but yes you have the option to pay in cash or bitcoin as well.

We will make further statements in July about VPN’s and other restrictions” says Liz Kendall.
God only knows what those loons will try.

@TrojanWhore
I’ve been using Surfshark for the last year and it’s been faultless.
