VR - 8700k/1080 vs 2700X/Vega64

Posted review with 17.12 drivers above. They are both in par compared to the initial release where vega was lacking
You got fresh V64 VR benchmarks somewhere??

Not talking any 2d pute VR benchmarks. Interested if they imprived allot in last 5 months :)

Looks like they have improved but the 1080ti is still way ahead in VR. Going to get a 8600k and 1080ti I think as didn’t realise the 8600k was a 6 core. Didn’t want a quad core so this is a bonus for me anyway.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either Intel or AMD to be honest but if I had to choose one for gaming it would be Intel. Nvidia is a no brainer but might be worth waiting for the latest cards or picking up a cheap 2nd 1080ti from the MM.

The 8600k looks like a good chip, 6 full cores. If you put a decent cooler on it and get the clocks up it should beat the 2600x in the majority of games that are out at the moment. Though it will be quite close.

You could upgrade to an i7 later but you wont get the 7nm upgrade path you would get going with a ryzen. You also dont get the 12 threads of the 2600x which could start being a problem sooner rather than later.

ryzen 2700 + gtx 1080ti ..

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,248.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

just slightly more then ryzen 2700x and gtx 1080

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,139.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

8700k + gtx 1080

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,149.06 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Everything except the OEM 8700K, or at least i would get the retail, there have been posts in here complaining of Thermal Compound traces on "OEM" CPU's from here, they could be 14 day returns. used parts.

Edit i do think the 8700K is better with a 1080TI.

Scratch that, he's looking for a GTX 1080, i though he was looking for a GTX 1080TI.

I have an idea, why not use the £150 you save by going Ryzen 2600 and use it to upgrade to the GTX 1080TI instead? the 8700K is better for the 1080TI but a 2600 is far better than a GTX 1080 with an 8700K or a 2700.

The 8600K is a 6 core 6 thread, i would argue 6 threads is not good future proofing, in the long run the 12 threads on the 2600 are better.

Ye but You adding CRAP RAM that wont work that well with Ryzen.... So 8700k is clear plug and play winner.

I run my oculus with full room dedicated to VR so its 2700x + Pascal titan. If You are not gonna do any productivity Intel+1080 will be better for You.

@jigger how many of those 20 ryzen systems are running full room scale VR just asking :)

Except the intel rig will need cooling.

It isn't listed. It doesn't matter, the point was made 'STOCK OUT OF THE BOX' intel is better. Stock out of the box, intel doesn't work.
I am sure he might be aware, but my point for the OP, is that he will also need a cooler.

Ye 50 quid on 1.5 grand build is fortune lol. Besides that AMDs cooler is only good for stock.

The 8700K will run hotter than the sun and throttle constantly on a £50 cooler, it is not plug in an play it needs a £150 cooler to run at its best.

The stock cooler of the 2700X (Wraith Prism) is plenty good enough even for overclocking, that's plug in and play by your reasoning.

But we talking 2600 vs 8600 atm with ti as thats better option. 8600 needs delid tho like any intel :/ they are not running hot cause of watt output but cum instead of solder in cpu.

Its a combination of both. You seem to be flip floping from one to another, the comment you reacted to was based on this your coment:

So that's what i responded too.

PS: why does the 8600 need deliding? its a locked CPU, did you mean 8600K?
