Want to appeal a Yellow Box PCN

The thing is too many motorists these days flout the rules of the road and get away with it.
Recently a large vehicle on our fleet was waiting to turn right in a box junction, as the lights changed a shed of an astra jumped the lights and stopped in the box junction, unfortunately behind the drivers line of sight and he didn't check his right mirror as he was watching his tail swing in the left (his fault). He then turned and tore the back of the Astra (poetic justice?) and it ended up costing us to repair/replace the Law breaking astra drivers car.

I agree the driver made a mistake, but the Astra had blatently broken 2 laws and caused an incident which he got away with.

Technically our drivers fault, morally the other drivers.

These cameras are going to become more and more prevalent as councils look to recoup lost income, and frankly good luck to them, maybe cameras can help improve some aspect of driving?

I'd rather they spent the money on getting more police on the road catching proper driving cretins (people on mobile phones, middle lane hoggers, uninsured drivers). In this example discretion could have been applied as it wasn't really causing an obstruction. Fining people for petty infractions isn't going to do much. Don't know what you mean about more prevalent they're already e everywhere.

middle lane hoggers.
What the problem with drivers staying in the middle lane ?

While I was holiday in England a few weeks ago I noticed loads of drivers just stay in the middle lane at 70mph and other cars that want to go faster then 70mph just overtake them in the outside lane..
It a pain trying to stay in the first lane at 70mph as you got to change lane to overtake the lorries/slow cars that are going 50 to 60mph etc every minute

The only annoying thing is the lorries that take 6 miles to over another lorry

Reduces traffic flow among other things. And is generally just poor driving. and can lead to more accidents.

And if we are being anally retentive about it highway code says:

Highway Code Rule 264 clearly states that all drivers must keep to the left-hand lane when not overtaking. This means all drivers of all vehicles should be in lane one unless they are passing slower vehicles.

No different to the infraction received for the yellow box junction in this thread.

While driving the final bit to Birmingham all the lanes where packed and reduced to 40 or 50mph (can't remember now if it was M1 or M6 :o), If everyone went into the single inside lane there would been a que for miles..

You don't force yourself into lane 1 - and in heavy congestion they often tell you to stay in lane.

However for general driving, middle lange hogging cause a significant amount of congestion. Especially 4 lane motorways.

Agree, mobile use is getting epidemic as well

Gives a reminder that they should stop their bad habit and be more observant.

The bad people can be good people doing the wrong thing over and over because it never gets enforced that what they are doing is wrong.

Saying THIS rule is ok to ignore but THOSE rules should be enforced is bizzare. All should be enforced but until we get quite invasive monitoring it will not be possible.

Getting slapped round the head (with a fine in this case) when knowingly breaking a rule should be expected. No enforcement is no deterrent.

Actual police work costs money. This is an easy money spinner for the local council.

I still didn't get the video but managed to see more pics on the council website and he was stopped at the end of the box for at least 9 seconds. He was expecting traffic to move as the cars further ahead were moving, it didn't and he got caught. Bang to rights really, bit pathetic but there you go.

So "clear of the box junction within a couple of seconds of slowing down at the exit" was actually stationary for nine seconds?! Was he just lying or did he actually think he slowed and cleared in a couple of seconds? Nine seconds stationary in a box junction is an eternity.

All ways makes me laugh this...

If the maximum speed limit is 70Mph and you're travelling at that speed in the middle lane, you will be constantly overtaking slower moving vehicles on the left lane. How will you be reducing traffic flow, inducing more accidents and showing poor driving?

Also those doing less than that, use the outside lane to overtake.

Janesy are you going ahead with the mispelt road name angle?

I certainly know first hand of one instance where this has gotten a speeding fine thrown out.

You won't though - because over 50% of the time they don't move over when the lane is clear. That's why they're called middle lane hoggers. Because they don't move over to lane 1. It's just as bad as people staying in lane 3 or 4 and not moving back in. It causes people to do stupid things like overtake on the inside, or behave badly. It's not a mitigation, but it is poor driving. Fortunately they are clamping down on it and people are getting points for hogging the middle lane.
