You should listen to the original broadcast from 1938, "before" watching the series to see where all of this orginated.
Surely that should be "read the original book by HG Wells that is actually set in England in the Victorian time period"?

Carful there are two versions, Fox / Canal+ have produced a version which has aired and is set in the present.
Pretty sure it's the BBC one that has aired, and the FOX one comes out at the end of the month, at least according to Wiki.
Why can’t the bbc just give us an air date?
I’ve never known a programme to be so secretive in when it’s actually on.
Yeah, it’s already finished in Canada. This has been released somewhere as it's "available" on line
Mammoth Screen announced in September 2019 that the series is expected to be released in the UK in late 2019. The War of the Worlds first premiered on T+E in Canada between 6 and 20 October 2019, and was broadcast on TVNZ 1 in New Zealand in two parts between 13 and 20 October 2019
The airing comes after a long delay of the mini-series, which shot in mid-2018 and was originally expected to air that festive season.
RadioTimes.com understands the delay may have been due to issues with the special effects work required on the drama, and that with more time the work has now been completed.
