Warhammer Total War Confirmed

or you could just answer the question asked...

Not wanting to fan the flames of this discussion, but there's "just answer the question" and "just answer the exact same question every other new visitor to the thread has been posting on a daily basis since this came out".

I guess different folks have different points where one becomes the other.

could have just kept quiet though really... but yeah I get where you're coming from

I want the Beastmen DLC. In fact, I want all the race DLC but I'm hoping they do a 'twin pack' or something a little further down the line - Beasties and Wood Elves - sort of thing.
Did they do anything like that in previous Total War games or was it just GOTY or Gold editions a year or more after launch?

Really debating getting this. I have every other total war game to date. Is it definitely worth it?

Was going to wait for it to go on sale but doesn't look like it will.

I think it's the best TW game I've played. Most varied gameplay, best looking, very cool campaign map. Just generally awesome.

Medieval total war II was better IMHO. There seems to be a fairly limited number of battle grounds in this one, by far my second favourite though.

I think I agree with this. Medieval 2 is still my favourite but this comes second.

Looking forward to more maps/races (especially elves) though so maybe that could tip the balance!

I would love to see a Medieval 3.

Ah see I never played medieval 2. There are only two things I would change: settlements should have some form of walls or buildings to defend from, and yeah maybe a few more battlegrounds. Although the ones they have are good (underground could be a bit more interesting, similar to the one with the huge dip in the middle)

As Dwarves, what's the best way to defeat a an Orc Waaagh? By about turn 25 I had a confederation with my dwarf neighbours and had expanded south of Black Rock (?) but then got hit by the first Waaagh. They took back a tonne of settlements so I only had 4 remaining but using a hero I managed to hamper one of their armies which seemed to completely take the edge off them and allowed me to defeat them at a decisive battle. After this their decimated armies ran away and fizzled out. Since then I've been really struggling to make progress as another Waaagh starts to build up on my border and I have to spend time firefighting that. Thankfully I'm a little better prepared this time and have multiple hereoes out scouting ahead in the south to give me some advanced warning.

I've not played Orcs yet so I'm wondering, what really makes a Waaagh fizzle out? It seems like you have to get them before they get steamrolling, otherwise it's really painful - but what kills a Waaagh?

Only way to kill off a Waagh when it gets going is to defeat them in battle which kills their morale and gets them to desert. As you mentioned the trick is keeping pressure on them to stop them going Waagh in the first place. You need to stop them getting easy victories and raiding so build up town walls so there are no easy raids.

Ultimately though once they are live you just need to fight them, just go for the steel line/crossbow tactic and just hold with veterans/Lomgbeards whilst you rain crossbow related death on them. Their morale is so **** concentrated fire breaks them so quickly and if you have a lord strong enough to counter theirs you should easily win.

I had 1k vs 4.2k (ish) once and won killing around 3.5k of them and losing only a few hundred through the above tactic. Iron breakers or miners with charges are devastating on Orcs as well.

Call of the Beastmen is out, looking forward to having a crack at the new campaign over the weekend - that is if I can tear myself away from finishing off my Empire Campaign, completed all the objectives ages ago but now just enjoying conquering every last bit of the map.

Finding it quite fun, and the latest patch seems to have dampened down the irritation from agent spam somewhat. I know there are many people unhappy with the price of this DLC, but in my opinion it's not too bad given there is a separate stand alone campaign, a new new roster of units ( beastmen ) and the integration of those units into the the grand campaign.

Huge total war and war hammer fan I can look pass the prices. Beast man campaign quite linear but good so far. The beast man are pretty good rather like the fast hitting strategy of hitting the enemy before they form up.
