Wether you like the design or not, I bet my left nut the quality of the hardware and the actual usability is way beyond anything else including the 360. It's not round for a reason... Have anyone seen the 360 in action, it's horrific... Full lines of content only are visible at widest area of screen.

I love apple launches, actually get excited as they do push technology and design in interesting ways...he'll they have so much r&d budget, way beyond anyone else. No fan boy either (I use a s4 as main phone)

Looking forward to having a play with one... But I think the gen2 of this will be stunning. With current tech they were very limited with size of case etc

lol that Moto 360 image looks drool worthy and I am not a watch man for the most part :D

I'll be getting one as it looks insanely useful for cycling. Might hold off until the 2nd gen though as it'll undoubtedly be thinner and lighter.

While Apple announced the Apple Watch today at its special event, it didn't go over all of the new device's features, noting that the company has a lot more to share in the future. Yahoo Tech's David Pogue has found out some of the details Apple didn't share on stage.

The watch is water resistant, allowing users to not worry about the device when in the rain, or washing hands. However, the watch must be taken off before going for a swim or taking a shower. Additionally, the watch includes a microphone that can allow users to make calls directly from their Apple Watch.

Users will also be able to load apps onto the Apple Watch from their iPhone. To rearrange the apps, users will have to hold their finger on an app's icon and move it around, similar to how one rearranges icons on an iPhone. There's also a "Ping My iPhone" feature, which will allow users to play a sound on their iPhone so they can locate it in case they have misplaced it.

Finally, Pogue explains that the Apple Watch Edition, the most high end of the Apple Watches, comes with a special box.

The fanciest model, the gold Apple [Watch] Edition, comes in a gorgeous jewelry box — which doubles as a charger. The back of the box has a Lightning connector, and the inside of the box has the watch’s magnetic round charger pad, standing vertically. So as you retire each night, you can just lay your gold watch into its case and let it charge.
Additionally, Re/code's Ina Fried says that the offline abilities of the Apple Watch include Apple Pay, music via Bluetooth, activity tracking and some apps.

The Apple Watch will launch in early 2015 with its lowest end model costing $350.

I think this is one of the worst products from Apple from in a long time.

The Good:

You get 2 sizes, which is good as watches typically can in male/female sizes.

Custom SoC, everyone else just reuses phone SoC which is stupid, I don't need 2/4 all purpose cores but instead custom cores similar to the original Moto X. Was half expecting this in the Moto 360.

3 Watch options, the gold one is clearly going to be there 1k+ range but its nice.

Typical Apple build which should feel really nice and solid.

The Bad:

Looks a bit naff, the Moto 360 looks very smart and is something I would wear to work and not feel like a nerd.

UI seems extremely cumbersome, the best thing about iPads/iPhones is its super simple, this thing looks like I need a 50page manual to understand what I'm doing. Theres a dial to zoom in and out, normal touch, force touch, already seems more complex then it needs to be.

No mention of battery life leads me to believe it is also 1 day which is meh.

The ugly

Custom wrist straps is just a power play by apple and sucks, everyone else sticks to the standard.

Some of the apps just show its rushed, when will I ever want to look at a gallery on a 1.5"-1.65" screen, its just a stupid move that I would expect from Samsung.

I thought this... They should have just done basic apps and notifications first etc... then with later instalments seen how they could create a better experience.

Personally don't think it looks that bad although having to charge it every night is a massive turn off for me. Also its a novelty item. If i was to get one guarantee'd after a few months ill be bored of charging/wearing.

Kind of wish Apple would go and innovate something new and different. These smart watches are pretty much old now right.

They should have marketed it as something as a sports accessory, something you wear for the gym like the Nike + sport band. To market it as a watch it needs to have features and comfort that you associate with a watch, i.e. not having to charge it at all !

The problem with the Moto 360 is that the battery barely lasts a single day. I hope this is one area where Apple can beat the competition.

Yeah the battery life is very disappointing, and across the all smartwatches to be honest, a watch I charge everyday is kinda of stupid I think.

They need to implement some kind of self charging device that is all over watches these days, from automatic springs, to kinetic (it charges a capacitor?) to even solar.

If anything, use these as an emergency power source to generate some kind of juice would be good. It does mean however the watch will be even bigger/thicker.

Which comes down to 1st gen being too soon to adopt for this.

I don't know... actually innovating is such a saturated market is hard. They say they have been working on it for 3 years. In that time other smart watches (probably prompted by rumors apple are working on one) have appeared... mostly in rushed form. (think off the shelf SOCs)

Whether an innovative product or not, they have clearly thought the concept through within the bounds of current tech and put a lot of effort in. I bet other smart watch manufacturers are cursing apple.

They will sell like hot cakes... might even pick myself up one if and when I jump ship back to a iPhone. Kinda sick of the whole Android experience, just want something that just works and works beautifully, something that only Apple can do.

My old S4 is crying plastic slimy tears looking at those IP6s

I don't think it looks particularly nice. It's a bit too chunky.

I also really don't get the point of some of the 'features'. Why would you want/need to send your pulse to someone? I don't think the drawing message thing is very useful either. It's quicker to just get your phone out and send a text.

Maybe I'm not the typical audience for it. I don't really have a stack of tweets and facebook notifications I need to know about instantly or have lots of appointments to be at, but then all of that info and more would only ever be in my pocket which is not a million miles away from my wrist anyway. For the moment, I don't really get it. Maybe when v2 or 3 is out I might.

Ugly gimmicky tat in my opinion. Seriously, anyone prepared to cough up £350 for this monstrosity needs therapy.

I just don't get the point in these smart watches at all. I have a Seiko kinetic sportura on my wrist which tells the time and that is exactly what I want a watch to do.

DISPOSABLE INCOME... some people have plenty :)

It's not like £350 is actually that much money to joe average... to many people it's just pocket change

To me, well... it would have to feel right, but I love the idea from a business point of view just turning my wrist and seeing a email pop up, for that alone I like it.

I can afford it, but there is a point where it is just tat.

I spent thousands in guitars and amps, they have spent more time sitting in their cases than been played because I have been busy. However, they hold their value ridiculously well. I don't feel like i have lost money in them as they will never be outdated.

I can't say the same about this watch, 12 months from now it'll be worthless.

£350 isn't that much money? :p

Ask someone on the street if they consider it to be a lot and you'll find your answer. Perhaps it's not a lot to spend on a watch, but for disposable income it's hardly "pocket change".

This needs to be £200 before I'd consider buying.

LOL what!?

£350 isn't pocket change for Joe Average, what a bloody stupid statement

Ok to some people it's a lot (I think Joe Average income is around £28k ish), but for a piece of technology seems a fair price to me. To me it looks like it's worth the money considering how much R&D has gone into it.

Lets face it most of us are walking around with £500 handsets, have £300+ tablets... where is the difference. There isn't, you pay through the nose for tech and that's a choice you take.

btw, to me, £350 is not a lot of money.. I'm not rich, far from it..but if I feel it will provide functionality and justify that price tag I'll pay it. It's what consumers do :)

You can't knock Apple because something costs money
