Wayne Rooney on course to start the world cup

My thinking is that the 2nd round games are still either 29 or 30 days away (depending on if England were to come 2nd or 1st in the group) he "might" be fit to play some part in that.

If we cant get through our group without him then we dont deserve to do any good anyway we could hardly have an easier group.

im just excited that rooney will make the sweden game

er MIGHT
tbh had it beena single break he probs would
but as its a double and it now all depends on how it knits together I'd still rate him doubtful for that game.

And no no chance ferguson will let them rush him back.

The healing time is not that amazing, there's plenty of drugs about now which massively quicken healing and strengthen new bones.
I wasn't aware of any drugs that are used, have you any more info as i would be very interested to find out more?

On orthopaedic trauma wards calcium suppliments are sometimes prescribed for elderly patients. Smoking cessation is encouraged (as it impares the flow of oxygenated blood to the fracture site) - this is also the pricipal behind putting him in an oxygen tent. Dietry alterations are sometimes made (ie increased iron intake). Also a type of ultrasound therapy is sometimes used to stimulate healing (the name of the machine escape me at present). One of the main things that can strengthen bones (in tearms of bone density) is weight bearing/exercise. One of the complications with metatarsal fractures however is non-union if weight bearing begins too early. One other factor which affects bone density is androgens (the sex hormones) so perhaps Colleen has been doing her bit to help speed his recovery!! :D

Callus formation (soft bone which indicates union of the fracture on x-ray) is often seen at 2-3 weeks in some types of metatarsal fractures and healing around the 4-6 week stage. The main problem (presuming there are no other setbacks) is getting match fit again (which is no mean feat at that level) as Mr. Beckham showed us in Japan 02. Fingers crossed....

Anyone else smell a huge fish? Fergurson sacking the medical guy AND not letting any FA official in for the scan? Personally I dont think Ferguson wants Rooney to play as it is a risk to Man U if he plays. What justification does he have to stop the FA in for the scan?

He probably didn't want the FA guy to immediatly come out and tell everyone that Rooney would play in the world cup, which would put pressure on everybody.

What I find strange though is him flying out to Germany then coming back for the scan, surely they could just scan it out there? Unless Ferguson wants him back so he can stop him going out for the 2nd round...

Absolutely pointless, don't bother with Rooney Sven ffs, he could be fit for the last 16, and he will only have 10 days to train for it, hes not gona be fit at all, just give it up. :(

Don't be silly, Rooney is a truly worldclass player and even at 70% match fitness England will be stronger with him than without. We have no backup remotely in the same league as Rooney...

Because hes our player, while hes playing in the WC were still paying his wages

I want him playing in the WC more than anyone, but if that means ******* us
up for the first few months of the season then no way

I think that doctor was the one who blabbed his mouth off about Ferguson deliberately holding back players from playing international football. And the joke around Old Trafford was that in the 16 odd years of Giggs playing for Wales, that there was always something wrong with him when a friendly was coming up on the calendar, and in the end Wales gave up trying to ask him to play. If he is, I'm surprised he even got to send an email saying goodbye to everything he worked with once Ferguson has him in his sights. Apparently he was a real favourite with most of the players.

And like G|mp says, he is our player. Ferguson and the fans do not want him injured again or rushed back too early. Most club fans would be saying the same if it was their player like Terry, Lampard or Gerrard who England has pinned their hopes on winning the WC.

Sven shouldn't even be considering taking him. There is no way he's going to be anywhere near 50% fit, so there is no point. Ditch him, and bring in a talented reserve like Heskey (j/k :p) or Ashton.

It won't be any good for England carrying a passenger, it won't do Man U any good putting a player at risk and most importantly of all it won't do Rooney's long term health any good either.

To hear some talk you'd think we have a weak side.
