Webber to leave F1 for return to Le Mans with Porsche

Webber reminds me of that guy who got fired from the Apprentice 2 weeks ago - "Mr Nice Guy". You don't win championships by being nice and sulking Mark. Schmacker and Senna didn't have that mentality. They were ruthless! just like Vettel.

Anyway best of luck to "Mr Nice Guy" I hope that his niceness isn't down to his Government banning games like Saints Row 4 and State of Decay. :D

Anyway... Kimmi won't take the seat at Redbull imo, he knows how it feels to be treated as a 2nd best driver in a top team (Ferrari) and if he goes to Redbull he'll be treated like one. Then there is the issue of getting on with the Engineers over there too.

Lotus are going from strength to strength and I really want Lotus to improve and Kimmi to win the championship.

I think Massa is a good contender if we are to choose an old hat. As for picking a current driver then it will be Paul di Resta or Daniel Ricciardo (So Vettel can keep the same "Mr Nice Guy" I'm from Australia mentality type of driver to kick around like he did with Webber. :D

Oooooh, so Webber only said about his choice this morning to Horner. The rest of the season is going to be fun. I don't think he is going to take any pap from the team.

I like Mark Webber as a character, but believe he's been average as a non-pay F1 driver. Yes, there were a few great results pre-RBR but often they were due to circumstance.

At Red Bull he's shown glimpses of speed but rarely sufficient consistency to make you think that he could be a world champion. He seems to have struggled to adapt to changing car dynamics and making the minute adjustments necessary to capitalise on car upgrades.

I will miss his character and press conferences / statements though. My all time favourite!

PDR has been told by FI that he is allowed to move to another team if he wants, so I see him going to McLaren. Perez will stay at McLaren as they will be bringing in the Mexico Telecoms giant (Telmex) for sponsorship next year, so that leaves button as a floater. My guess is that he is a "Number 2" driver now, and the RBR would probably suit him very well as it is a stable car that smooth drivers will get on well with, so Button to take his seat?

JB has a longer term contract with McLaren outside of F1 so if anything he's most likely to end his career there.

Not surprising and well a great move, now who do I back at Le Mans.

Surly it has to be kimi, who else is there.

The only other is Di-Resta but as much as I would like to see another Brit in a top team, I'm not convinced he's good enoug.

And that's it, the others are even worse.

I think it's going to be down to how they weigh the factors in the decision - I.e. what is most important between the value of their Young Driver Program and what Marko says, what Vettel thinks, and what is a good fit and best driver for the team.

If they have a high weight on the Red Bull Driver Program and what Vettel would like, then it's Vergne or Ricciardo.

If the weight isn't so much on the Driver Program and they want to keep Vettel happy, and have a consistent number two ala Webber, then Di Resta could be in with a shout.

If they want the best driver in the mix, and one that suits the Red Bull corporate image, and they aren't really bothered about the noise Marko and Vettel would make, then Kimi is probably higher up the order.

I think James Allison leaving lotus earlier this year will have quite an impact, and this may be a bigger factor in kimi's choice to stay or not.

Well they said they want the fastest driver, so that would be kimi. There just seems a lack of talent in f1 at the moment.

Massa, Grosjean(what happened he showed a bit of promise a long time ago) and Maldonado need to leave, obviously webers leaving. But there's not really anyone to fill the places, we allready have so many new guys on the grid.

When was kimi ever a no2 anywhere?

Not at Mclaren, certainly not at ferrari. They didn't pay him that huge wage to be a no2. His performances made him a no2 in the end.

Kobayashi please.

Not a chance on these tyres. They take away everything that made him so awesome initially.

Both Kimi and Alonso struggled (if you can call it that, both did well) adapting to the change from Michelin tyres to Bridgestone.

I don't remember Alonso struggling with Bridgestones.

I think they should bring Schumacher out of retirement, stick him in the Red Bull and he will own Vettel or smash him off the road either way F1 wins lol..........

Won't happen. It would be nice to see Jenson in a top car again.

Indeed. He has long term contracts with McLaren and their sponsors outside the driving contract.

Pity. Much as I am a JB fan I think he'd be a very good compliment to SV in the Red Bull, and would be a great choice to accumulate team points.

2014 McLaren.

I'm actually more excited about what this does for Le Mans than the vacant seat next to finger boy. The P1 class is on a bit of a knife edge with limited teams in it, a big name like Porsche joining with headline drivers like Webber is great for Le Mans and the WEC. Do we know if Porsche plan to field 2 or 3 cars? A 7 or 8 car fight for the win should make 2014 Le Mans epic.

If Jenson went to red bull it could easily be at the wrong time, who knows who will be best after the reg changes. I'm sure aero wise the red bull will still be tops as Newey is brilliant at reg changes but engine, who knows.

I can see JB moving to RB or Ferrari but it will only be the same role as Massa and Webber. Whipping boy, I'd much prefer he stayed at Mclaren and hope they have a much better car.
