Weekend Football 21/22 & 23rd ***SPOILERS***

Pederson should have had a penalty. When you are running at that pace ANY contact is going put you off balance.

If its a shove from the side, or a push in the back, that might knock you off balance so you stumble and fall. Touching someone on their shoulder does not cause they're legs to buckle from under them.

To then stand in front of a TV camera and claim you didn't try to go down makes you a look a bit silly tbh.

What else could have they done? There was no obvious candidates who could have taken over now and although managers should be given time, Scolari was seemingly taking Chelsea backwards. What was looking like being a totally wasted season for Chelsea is now very much alive again. They may be out of the league but they're still in with a shout of winning the FA cup and CL which didn't look like being the case under Scolari.

Their season is back on and they have given themself the opportunity to get the right man in the summer when no doubt there will be more top managers available.

But which "top" managers are going to risk their reputations to go to Chelski and be sacked for getting not bringing instant success ?
Which is pretty much what Mr Russian Mafia is wanting.

I can't see many, But I can see a lot of people going to the money / pay off.

Chelsea have a lot of problems, bringing Hiddink in wasn't the right decision, I thought giving it to Ray Wilkins until the end of the season.

Even if they didn't win anything he'd probably of given him a good cup run in the competitions.

It is a disgrace isn't it? Almost £50 a time to see some over paid teenages tap the ball about with no urgency! Where do I sign up

It's ridiculous, this season I've for once had oppurtunity to head to London to see them play but there's no way I'm shelling out around £100 for it if in general they can't be bothered. Not a sodding chance.

if you'd have seen the amount of times Song gave the ball away you would have cried, MOTD also gave Vela the benefit of not showing his skewed shot on goal which went about 2 yards from his foot.

first half not so bad, 2nd half was just woeful and more worringly they played as if we were 20pts ahead in the league, no-one willing to make space...predictable build up ....poor passing ....ooooo the punters were restless i tell thee.

still at least arshavin looked smart for a period, godamn he is a small fella ...reminded me of a young ljungberg from the stand.

Any top manager looking for a job would be interested in Chelsea

Like you say, even if they aren't successful straight away they know that they're going to get £m's if they're sacked. It's a no lose situation.

I have no idea how Wilkins taking over untill the summer is better for Chelsea than Hiddink though

Chelsea need to give a contract to a manager, ( who can use the remaining time to start building for next season ) They need to get a manager who has the confidence to take on the likes of Terry / Drogba ect ect...
Close season, when other managers won't be distracted by ongoing club commitments, is a faaaaar better time to try to hire someone than in the middle of a season.

But then, you've actually just said that Ray Wilkins would be a better appointment than Guus Hiddink, so I'm not sure how seriously I can argue any point with you.

It does if it puts them off balance. Pedersen was in with the shot and given that he hasn't had many chances this season he would have most likely taken the shot. Whether Rafael made minimal contact or not it was still a penalty however, and not for the first time in the PL, the referee botched a major decision at Old Trafford.

Funny though how most United fans wont bat an eyelid when Ronaldo falls over thin air.

He dived and got booked. There is no need to talk about it.

Bit annoying about Evans as a CB was the one position I genuinely thought we could have done with backup during the transfer window. If Evans, Neville, Brown and O'Shea are out I'd expect Fletcher to possibly end up playing CB.

It wasnt a penalty, you can cry and whine as much as you want about it, yes, Rafael touched Pedersons shoulder, no he didnt pull him down, Rafael would have to impede Pederson in some way, what he did was give him enough contact to try and buy a penalty by throwing himself to the floor, what Pederson did was feel the contact and throw himself on the floor, rather than taking the shot.
And that is the be all and end all of it.

Yes, Ronaldo dived, and yes he got booked.

Glad i'm not the only one who saw it like this as well. As soon as Pedersen felt any contact, he just buckled. He should have been booked - that was the part that the referee got wrong.

Shearer was having a right rant about it though, it's like having a second Jamie Redknapp in the studio.

How about Giggs with his reading of the game (probably better than Fletcher, but not by much) - height difference is about 3 cm according to BBC in DF's favour (and Utd would probably miss less with Giggs in the centre)

Think its a bit harsh to expect so many casualties in the same area to need backup - not that I would want GN there in the first place or OShea really but needs must , OShea would certainly be better than any option we now have (OShea or JE havent been completely removed, although they are both rated as doubtful/very doubtful)

.

It was light contact in the area, and Pederson did make the most of it - but Utd wouldnt really have much to complain about if it had been given (on the provido that JE's goal had also been counted - which I think may well have been a contributing factor to the pen not being given)

I think if it had been given, people would have said it wasn't a penalty. But as it wasn't people are saying it was, if you get what I mean. :p

I don't see it as any different to what Ronaldo did i'm afraid, just that Ronaldo made the mistake of going down before contact. Pedersen just went down with the wrong kind of contact. :o

Wenger has said in the post match interview we had the right attitude  There can't be any hope if he thinks jogging around at a snails pace is the right attitude

For or against?

The ref bottled it. Pulling from behind is never fair contact, so he had two choices, red card+pen or yellow card for diving and he did neither.

PS: I am glad the ref didn't give it, as I would prefer to see UTD win the league than liverpool! :D

It wasn't a pull though, or a push, he just put his hand on his shoulder, which isn't against the rules. If he was pulled he would have fell backward, or pushed fell forward, but he didn't. Pederson felt it, thought he was going to get a penalty and let his legs fold from under him.

I love how its a big thing though, and that we're cheats who pay off referees, and it always happens at OT and its not even worth going there anymore, yet no one but utd fans seem to mention it when we've had decisions against us these last few weeks.. :D

If any midfielder is used in defence against Inter, it will be Carrick in the centre. And I really hope that doesn't happen, not because I don't think he's good defensively because he's very good defensively, but because we'll miss him further up the field. Giggs will obviously start in central midfield, who knows maybe even Tevez too. Fergie will want players running around at them for 90 minutes, nobody does it better than Park, Tevez and Fletcher. And he will want to start Berbatov and Rooney after Rooney's impressive comeback yesterday. It was brilliant to see him running at defenders again.

Has anyone kept count of the perfectly scored goals disallowed in the last few months? Not that it matters, 11 wins in a row now. :) Thanks Rafa.

i think that Rafael actually feigned him into diving, he touched his shoulder. maybe Gamst expected more contact or for it to look worse, or that more force was coming - took the dive and well, the ref didnt buy into it.

wasnt a great man utd performance though.

Nani looked poor a lack of fight coming back into the ball. i like the kid he has skill, pace and a fiersome shot. but he needs to work harder and expect tougher challenges. he cant wimp out and not go in to make contact with the ball even if he isnt going to control it.

Maybe fergie should start fining players for attempted flicks that concede pocession to cut down on the unecessary 1 touch interplay that goes nowehre except to an opposition counter attack?

Whether Rafael made minimal contact or not it was still a penalty however, and not for the first time in the PL, the referee botched a major decision at Old Trafford.

lets be honest the ref was blundering all night. Corner to UTD end of first half was a bad decision. followed by a disallowed goal that was also a bad decision (imo having watched it live on setanta without any MOTD replays). before that a goal kick to UTD when it was ablackburn corner?!

As said, if the Rafael decision should have been a penalty - the evans goal should have been allowed, and thus leaving the result 3-2, either way.. we'd have won.

But any decision against united is ignored and everything else is raved about.
