Weekend Football **SPOILERS** 4-5 April

what a goal :) dont think i have celebrated a winner that much since Ole Gunnar stick out his right foot in the nou camp in 99 :D

one of the best things about late winners all the people who leave early and miss them! :P

Macheda been playing well for the reserves he got hatrick in his last game, he might make the bench for tuesday night now.

Gotta love how only the Liverpool fans actually want Liverpool to win, lol.

Even the Arsenal and Chelsea fans are dreading the prospect.

You think drunkenmaster? Personally for me, Tevez and Fletcher were in a class of their own for us today, they worked tirelessly and constantly won the ball back, Fletcher especially.

Man of the Match for me. Although you could arguably give it to Macheda as he was fantastic from the minute he came on with exceptional positioning.

Nope, thought both were very poor, work rate does nothing for me. If you work well for an entire game thats fine, Fletcher produced nothing and Tevez refused to play his role. he was the main striker, as Macheda obviously showed they needed someone to play that role and run beyond the defence. Tevez wasn't interested in doing what the team needed and work the defence, run in behind give people someone to pass to he ran around in the space Carrick and Fletcher were happy to run in. He did nothing with the ball, his distribution was terrible he ran into defenders, couldn't beat anyone, he slowed the attack and created entirely nothing for the team. He couldn't have done any worse IMHO. Running around a lot doesn't change the fact that not 1 second of his running around helped his team in the slightest.

Same with Fletcher, frequently tried to run the ball when easier/better passing options were available, created very very little, ran into trouble, failed to get away from trouble, passing was shockingly bad. Ran a lot, again to no end. Ronaldo ran a lot all game, but he had an end product and once the team started to attack well by getting in behind and throwing Villa's defence around his work started to show.

Villa's defence looked entirely unworked, comftable and waiting for an easy victory till Macheda came on. Ronaldo's freekick wasn't from good Man U pressure but from milner being a ***** brained moron. That was about the closest you had come to a real attack at that point aswell. Hell even Friedal, what the hell was he doing, almost shoved O'shea out the way of the ball rather than standing back on his line, he was so far out of place when Ronaldo was only ever shooting for that other corner due to placement of the wall. Lucky for that too imho, Friedal has been crap for a couple weeks.

Poor performance from pretty much everyone bar a couple, but I can't fault the effort they all showed. Crowd was electric pretty much all game as well. Fletcher has been criticized, fair enough he probably didn't do much with the ball, but he must have done a marathon during that game today.

That goal though and the camera kiss :D

Macheda 1 - 0 Gerrard

I'm not sure why I bother reading these threads sometimes.. the number of people on here that talk absolute toss..

As much as a win today would've been good for us, I'll concede we had nothing left to fight for. No chance of catching Arsenal, but we won't slip below 6th, so it's Europa qualification for us no matter what from here. I'm glad United won, I actually cheered and applauded that goal because I simply can't be having Liverpool winning the league. A draw would've been a bad result all round, so at least someone came out with all 3 points, and for once, it was satisfying to lose.

We played better than certain people give us credit for - we didn't stand around picking our backsides all day. We took the game to United and deserved our lead when it eventually came. As usual, we totally bottle it towards the end of the match clutching a 1 goal lead and duly blew it. Martin Laursen is KEY to our squad and we must get rid of Reo-Coker.

Azza - do you only ever pop up when you win?

Macheda 1 - 0 Gerrard

Surely as they both have done it, it would make it Macheda 1 - 1 Gerrard?

I just hope that not too much pressure is put on Macheda, in the last few decades I have seen many many promising young talents come onto the scene for various clubs, score blinding goals early on and then succumb to pressure and disappear.

I have to confess, I really didnt realise that we Liverpool fans were as hated as it appears on this forum.

I dont know if that is indicative of the types of Liverpool fans here, or the types of other clubs fans here, or the nation as a whole. So much Liverpool hatred, I actually do find it surprising.

I would have thought for the interests of a continually competitive and exciting premier league people would generally want someone other than United to win it. Just to keep the league fresh, I mean we dont want a Celtic/Rangers situation in the EPL surely? Maybe I am just too reasonable and polite a person for these tribal sports :)

I wouldn't totally write off Villa's chances of 4th just yet, we no longer have to play any of the big four, if arsenal drop points to any of them it's a chance to catch up. Hopefully the decent play today will buck our run of bad performances.

Don't get me wrong Arsenal are on top, and in charge of 4th place now, but to completely write it off when just 2 games can turn it upside down I'm not too disheartened yet. Just hope we can get a result against Everton next week.

Brilliant goal by Macheda. the composure he had to take it as well as he did at 17 in front of 75k people, be good to watch him develop.

And no one even mentioned my signature that I've been sporting for a while? I'm disappointed by you all.

This was the first time i got a chance to see Macheda, just wanted to know if you've seen much of him and how good this lad could become? You know what its like in the premiership you hear of wonderkids with all the big teams coming through but he does look really talented.

I've been saying this for a week or two now, it's one of the reasons why us Arsenal fans were happy at full time today. It leaves us 6 points clear with a much better goal difference. It could mean that if 2/3 of the sides above us, beat us (which very realistically could happen), we'd still be ahead in fourth.

We won't get 4th and I don't want us to tbh. Can you imagine us playing Barcelona? They'd think we're some escaped mentalists and bang 20 past us.

I'll take Europa league, but MON needs to take it seriously.

Provided the qualifying draw is kind, you should get to the group stages (but possibly no further).

English sides by virtue of a fairly good recent history, are pretty strong compared to European sides.

Also, unlike David Moyes, Martin O'Neil has some experience of being in the competition. Everton would have made it into the group stages but if memory serves correct a really strong Villareal side almost appeared out of nowhere and knocked them out. They then, were only just beaten by us much later on in the semis that year.

I like many of the Liverpool fans on here a lot, mainly the ones who consistently post here like Baz, Pigeon_Killer etc.. but most of the ones I know seperate from this forum annoy the hell out of me and I think that's the case with many people.

He's stood out a mile in the reserves because of his clinical finishing and his willingness to work and get involved (unlike Welbeck for example). He's 17 and a bit of a monster in size too and he's only going to get better. Nice footwork and incredibly composed for a young age, my friend mentioned a likeness in the take and strike to something you'd expect from Cantona today and it's quite a good comparison.

He will definitely get a run out next year, however it almost definitely wont be for us, I know Rangers have been rumoured to be wanting him on loan for next season, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him there next season. In terms of striking talent he's the best we've had since Rossi who was outstanding, but he just wasn't tall enough.

I'm hoping for big things, he seems to have a lot in his arsenal, but it's perhaps too early to be going crazy, but he's a massive prospect.

Well i don't like any of the Mancs :p ;)

As for a few of the neutrals wanting Utd to win the league; that's mainly supporters of sides we've knocked out the CL still whining. I'd like to think that the majority of actual neutrals want us to win it.
