Weekend Football *Spoilers* inc Carling Cup Final 28/2 - 1/3

The Calton Palmer ad is brilliant ! It was on sky a few times yesterday :D :D :D
Sheffield Wednesday Shirt aswell ;)

Yeah, sky reported that King & Woodgate are struggling ! Dawson is very average in my opinion.

Would that be the same Madrid that won the Champions League in 2000 and 2002 as well as La Liga in 2001 and 2003?

Yes the same one that, 7 years ago won the champions league, and 6 years ago won La liga.

yes, 7 and 6 years respectively.

Arsenal won the league a few years ago you know.

Fancy that.

Real Madrid won the League in 2000–01, 2002–03, 2006–07, 2007–08.

2001–02 was when they last won the Champions League.

Arsenal won the League in 2001–02, 2003–04

Fancy that.

Who would take you forward ? because there can not be many managers that would be able to come in and get you success in the league or improve much on what Rafa is doing.

@ Baz, Instead of buying lots of average players and having a high turnover of players, why didn't Rafa buy one or two big name players a season ? or not buy so many average players, and buy some decent players ?

The amount of money he has wasted on average players would be more then enough to buy good players in most positions.
It's down to Rafa being a good coach, and being very hit and miss in the transfer market, more miss.

I have no idea who would take us forward, then again I am not paid to make that kind of decision, or experienced in the right fields to make that kind of decision. If I knew who could take us forward then I wouldnt be going into the job tomorrow morning that I go to every week.

Tevez definitely to start (as he has played every stage of the CC so far) possibly with Rooney upfront (as he hasnt played much since coming back from injury)

Welbeck on one wing and probably Nani on the other - Gibson seems like a definite starter

Fabio - Evans - Vidic - OShea (no other fit rb unless Eckersley gets the nod?)
with Foster in goal I would have thought

Rio could play instead of Vidic, but as he didnt play against Inter and he played a few games in the rounds due to necessity I think Vidic will step in

It may be a case of a five man midfield with Scholes Gibson and Fletcher (I doubt Giggs will start after playing 90 minutes on Tuesday) , and I cant see Carrick starting unless there is an injury to one of the above or for instance Fletcher plays rb and OShea has to play lb

Really hoping for a decent game

What I'm saying is that the Liverpool fans that we hear about, and in turn base our opinions on, don't support Rafa.

Now I might not know as much about Liverpool as I do a few other clubs, but I know that Rafa is doing well at Liverpool. Rafa has turned Liverpool in to a good League Club, a European force and a knockout expert.

I can't see what he's doing wrong.
Other then going mad and abusing Sir Alex :D

He is actually getting worse in the cups to be fair - admittedly he is still doing well in CL (and always seems to) - domestic cups though, certainly got knocked out pretty early of both this season

Pigeon reiterated the point, despite how bad Madrid may be now, there were a force back then and Benitez proved he was a top manager by winning La Liga.

Madrid are second in their league, I'd hardly call them "bad" They have a lot of very good players and a fairly good manager at the moment. Liverpool still have to play them at home, and no matter what you think about Liverpool being a good side at home, stranger things have happened.

Not all that, Madrid had a bad season the first time he won it, he was a disaster in the league the season after that, and he had a decent season the year after.

So he had one good season at valencia, threw a paddy, and naffed off.

I dont dislike the guy, I just dont rate him.

Another lucky season for Ferguson then? Because the rest of the top 4 have been ****.

Who do you actually rate as a manager in world football? Other than Ferguson of course.

Sir Alex Ferguson is the most successful manager in the English game.

Rafa was fortunate when he won the League because of the short coming of Real. Rafa is now less fortunate because he's coming up against other good sides, Manchester United are the best team in the league at the minute.

This however, for this season at least shows how poor the other teams have being. Last season Chelsea took Manchester United right to the death, as Arsenal and Chelsea have done for the past few seasons. So No I don't think Sir Alex gets lucky. I think he's just the best manager in the League at the moment.

Chelsea have sacked two very good managers, Wenger is still about and will have a incredible team in a season or so, and with the rise of Martin and David at Villa and Everton you can hardly say Sir Alex is getting lucky every season.

League has been rubbish this year, and we were one of the worst sides to win the league in years last year.

Cant say we have been anything other than lucky to end up in this position this year, much as it pains me to say it, we have been terrible in quite a few games.
