Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 18-22

yeah good news about smith, seems to give the rest of em a kick up the butt (no pun intended, although he needed one)
god geremi cant believe hes stil playing football tbh, so slow.

Don't know what game you were watching but we didn't struggle against Spur's midfield for any number of minutes.

Lol, yeah, sure Man Utd looked fantastic before Palacios got booked, infact they weren't 1-0 down with the majority of the attacking play going to Spurs, no really, thats how it happened.

UTd got ripped a new one against Barca, and Spurs up till Palacios basically couldn't play anymore, were completely over run in midfield. Within a minute or two of Palacios's booking the game changed completely. Then obviously you can look at the Liverpool game, again completely outdone in midfield, the Fulham game aswell. Fulham are crap up top, okay in defence but have an uber hard working high quality midfield, they closed down constantly and put players under pressure, they did exactly the same to Arsenal and won aswell. Its really not a big deal against most teams but against the better teams Utd have a big weakness in central midfield.

Same happens with Arsenal, the Pompies and Everton's simply don't have anything to trouble us properly and Denilson/Song/Diabys mistakes don't cost us, anyone top 8(ish) and the better Euro sides tore us apart in midfield and dominated games due to it.

City have one of the best central midfields in the League now, if they do go with 3 in Barry, De Jong and Ireland you have 2 players very capable of tracking runs, intercepting, winning the ball and passing/keeping the ball under pressure, and Barry :p

If Arsenal lose today then I'll eat my hair. :)

While it would be funny to see, its one of those games we should win, possibly by a large margin and Wenger and the fans will kid themselves everythings great again, talk about character, then we'll lose or fluke a win next time we play a decent team.

I can't stand how short sighted fans get, we trounce Everton and fairly easily beat Pompie, but both games showed some serious signs of trouble but most fans kid themselves into thinking we've got a shot at the league and cups :(

Then we play better teams and those weaknesses lose us games, we'll beat another crummie team and all will be forgotten. Our only hope seems to lie in losing games around transfer windows and praying Wenger strengthens the right area.

They scored a goal from a long ball in the first minute, after that they hardly had 'the majority of attacking play'

Not many chances or real shots on goal, doesn't mean they didn't have the majority of the attacking play, till Palacios got booked utd didn't even look a threat at all, they couldn't keep the ball and Spurs were passing it around them like they weren't there, for 25mins UTd didn't look even close to coming back into the game. If you think otherwise, rewatch the game, or get glasses.

Burnley barring a shock now, will win, 2 nice goals, slightly lucky/poor penalty and didn't see the foul that conceded it, stupid/bad defending or unlucky?

EDIT:- nasty tackle by Bardsley, he really is just a little **** tbh and not very good. You can understand why supposedly Sunderland were in for Neill aswell as Everton, who also desparately needed a right back with Hibbert being so crap lately.

The ball was clearly gonna run out and the defender took him out, in inexplicably stupid fashion.

Lol, well that does sound like Ferdinand :p

Saw him retardedly hand ball for what should have been another penalty, long ball into the box he just raised his arm which clearly stopped it falling behind him for a shooting chance. I still can't believe West Ham got so much for him.

Realistically Sunderland need a real CB instead of Ferdinand, and a right back instead of Bardsley, whose just a thug. Ferdinand has the odd great game but loads of utter turd games, an average defender whose rarely bad is far better for a team.

Burnley handled a cross in the box low down as well so it evened out. He was decent most of last season until the last half dozen matches. He is though prone to the howlers of his brother but without anywhere near the defensive skills :) Bruce needs to give him a run out of the team to get him back to normal and his confidence up.

Yippee, Diaby's starting, one of two possibilities can occur when he plays, the other team are SO bad he looks good and Wenger refuses to drop him for the next important game, or he's just entirely crap and Wenger still won't drop him. :(
