Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 26/27 Sept

Phew - very hard victory that. Mannone MOTM by far.

Edit- double post.

He really can not finish, his final ball in general is lacking, whether it be a shot or a cross.

LOL

He done well but am I the only 1 thinking that most of those saves were for the camera's? At first glance it looked like he made some cracking diving saves and then when you see the replay the ball was only half a yard to his side.

At least two of those saves he had to get into full speed if that makes any sense. One from a corner was close but it was almost a point blank one.

I too had thought that, but I'm not sure whether credit has to go to him in the way that he seems to be a very fast moving keeper.

Yep, apart from the double save in the first half, and the better one of those hit him in the face.

It seems we're in spite of him not because of him.

Last time you was complaining about a manager doing something wrong, when he really wasn't - Didn't you end up getting relegated.

If he gets you promoted this season, he has done more than what was expected of you. None of the football in this league is pretty, just be happy hes getting you wins.

ps: you = Newcastle fans in general.

I'm not on about pretty football, I'm on about effective football, our football hasn't always been effective (see Blackpool mainly).

I take it the manager you are referring to is Allardyce? And yes, we did get relegated the next season. Could've been that season if Allardyce was kept on though. 2 wins in 12 (both last minute goals) for Allardyce in his last games, and he managed to give Derby their only three points of the campaign.

No-one is saying Hughton should be sacked, just criticising his mistakes. Deluded Newcastle fans though eh?

lol, woeful again, up against anyone out of the bottom 6 or so(realistically where people are going to be end of season) we look poor. We created almost no real chances today, we created very few chances in previous games also, just scored most of them. Even against Everton we only had 7-8 shots on target IIRC, just scored them all. ULtra clinical, but when we aren't we're running into huge trouble. In our league winning years of ultra attack 4-4-2, we'd be getting 15-30 shots a game on target, and scoring 3-4.

We shouldn't have won today, Mannone kept us in the game, and frankly if we played any team without Zamora, we'd have lost. Fulham look no where near as good as last year and we struggled badly today.

Yet another game I can't remotely understand Diaby lasting the 90, he offered nothing defensively or offensively, and yes for Zamora's header which was saved fantastically, it was Diaby marking him, taller by a half foot, faster, but lazy and stupid.

Having a go at Eboue for missing one shot is hardly fair, everyone missed a shot tonight, but somehow his miss is far worse. Arshavin had the easiest shot did worse, it happens. Eboue was fantastic from the second he came on, in 5 minutes he'd linked up and created great attacks with Fabregas more than Song/Diaby managed all game. Arshavin was completely isolated because Diaby never once gave him a decent pass in behind or released him on the counter attack. LIkewise CLichy didn't look great because Diaby wasn't running overlaps, didn't link up with CLichy or Arshavin and he also didn't cover for either of them when they went forwards.

Song and Diaby both, again, gave away constant needless fouls, most of Fulhams main chances came from freekicks, which were almost all conceded by those two. Constantly kick out, trip and generally foul people needlessly with no danger.

RVP looked isolated, again, the lack of support from Diaby was apparent, the slow passing from Song/Diaby and the multiple times they gave it away invited pressure on us and took Bendtner/Fabregas/RVP/Arshavin relatively out of the game. Since the first game with this dire formation RVP's barely having chances on goals and isn't having a chance to play well.

ALl those players played better last year in a 4-4-2, and defensively its hardly like 4-3-3 is helping defensively is it, we're over run just as much as last year and constantly under pressure, Pompie almost got back into the game against us FFS.

Where did I say deluded? Or have you been reading something I haven't said?

I just think he needs to be left to do his job, there can't be complaints about anything hes done yet.

And sorry CliffyG, had a brainfart with that one. :p My mind is on Aion too much ;)

Sorry DM, that's enough ranting. You'll have to go on ignore, my mind can't take any more crap. Atleast I don't state my crap as fact. :)

A simply awful performance today against a simply average team.
Wigan won everything in the 1st half through commitment from tackles to possesion and deserved their half time lead, that *never* happens to Chelsea now.
Chelsea looked in control in the 2nd until the pen and sending off then they had no chance as this Wigan side is very fit, strong and mobile, yet talentless.
Their 3rd goal was irrelevant as our 10 men were pushing for an equaliser, but on the whole they deserved 3 points.
I don't think this loss is a bad thing as the same happenend last year (great start to the season, touted as the best team going etc..) and we usually learn from mistakes.

Whats wrong with Sheffield United fans ? eh? Lost one game away to Swansea, and on BBC Radio Sheffield, it was sack the manager, sell the team, close the ground. They've only lost two sodding games all season.

Wednesday, paved over the defensive frailties to be honest, Purse still looked very suspect in defense, and got out of jail with a offside. The defense were let off again soon after, some bad defending and another offside saved them scoring again.

Going forward (second half) was much better, controlled the game, were really good in attack, could have been 6/7 instead of 3.

Pleased over all, still think were a bit poor in defense.

What happened to Chelsea?

What are you on about? effective football? Newcastle have drawn one game and lost one game, You've conceded 4 goals, have the best goal difference in the league, won 7 out of 9? so far, I'd say that's pretty effective.

The Championship is a very tough league, so far, I'd be over the ****ing moon with that start if I were a Newcastle fan, considering how **** off the pitch matters seem to be.

It's the same bunch everytime we lose. I have learnt to pretend they don't exist, otherwise I'd end up killing one/them.

Blackwell isn't my favourite person, never has been - never will be. But he is doing a decent job so leave him be.
