Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 26/27 Sept

Nani, well he is wonderful up to the 18 yard box and he either scores a wonder goal, blasts it wide, or crosses to no one. His decision making is awful, I hope it will improve but if it doesn't I can see SAF dipping into the market again for a winger.

Sounds like the description of another Portuguese winger a few seasons ago ;]

Not for me.

And I would have been highly shocked if any other Premiership goalkeeper didn't make all of those saves. The only one that was a "really good save" was because he palmed it right into the path of the attacking player.

Lol.

Watch Mannone's saves. They were very average, and he tried to make them look better for the TV. There was a couple of there good saves, but the rest, if he didn't make them, I would have been really disappointed.

Just look at how much he actually stretches his arms, he pushes his arms out, towards the balls, and still can't parry at away from goal.

At least he wasn't flailing around like somebody having a seizure, like he has in his past few games! I still rate Fabianski over him and even Szczesny as well. That makes him my 4th choice keeper, but there's no doubt he kept us in the game long enough for the midfield and forwards to get it done. I'd have been gravely disappointed if we'd lost or came away with a point, but at least this is the type of thing we need to do: Play a game poorly and still come away with 3 points. Fulham were great, we were average at best and we still won. Mannone no doubt did well even though he did make a dogs dinner of some of the saves. The double save in my mind was very good though. :)

Except Ronaldo was better on every level? Yep, sounds very much like him. :p

Except he is right, Ronaldo was all flash and no end product for a long time.

No one is saying that Nani will end up the same as Ronaldo but they were/are very similar at that point of their United career.

Time will tell, Nani has the potential, whether the potential is realised is another matter.

Ronaldo is younger than Nani I believe, and seeing as Nani hasnt actually improved every year like Ronaldo did, I think the comment was pretty accurate (-edit when they arrived, respectively Ronaldo was younger

Nani just isnt going to amount to anything at this level

He has had some amazing games (like taking Arsenal apart single handedly in a cup game) but his consistancy is woeful

I feel a bit sorry for Nani tbh.
I have to think that at another club, he would be a much better player.
But to me it looks like the guys getting no coaching at all. Because hes got a lot of talent but really obvious problem areas too and these have not improved for two years.
This seems really odd to me.
He's also needed a run in the team to pick up some momentum but this hasn't happened either.
And when he is played, its against the tallest team in the league, with strikers who both like to drop deep for targets. It's no real surprise that he struggled to make chances under such conditions.
Sure - he didn't play well and thats down to him too. But it seemed a very strange game to start with two traditional wingers in, for the first time in ages.
Regardless, I can't help but suspect that he will be leaving sooner rather than later.
But I wouldn't be surprise if he turns into a very good player once he does.

Erm, Nani is 22, Ronaldo is 24.

And like the age you're wrong about what he will amount to, he has talent and he will be a good player at a high level, maybe not with United though.

Ahh you've edited, fair enough.

I can't possibly how you can say he will be a good player at a high level? He has loads of potential, but that doesn't mean he will ever become a great/good player.

No one can possibly say he will be a good player at a high level.

With that logic no one can say he will be a poor player either. So therefore we make judgements, my judgement is that he will be a good player at a high level. That okay for you?

Sunderland won 5-2, cracking game by all accounts, Wolves came back from 2 down.

Hull were woeful yesterday against us, Brown's my tip for the next Manager to get sacked, although Roy Keane's giving him a good race, can't see him lasting much longer either at Ipswich. :D

Was a good game, both sides just went at each other tooth and nail to be honest. Wolves will probably be feeling **** about losing the game.

Hull are awful, they were for the second half of last season.

2nd half was great, 1st not so good, the ref was awful, their 1st pen was never a pen, we should have had a 1st half pen, it was a damn clear penalty, the same foul happened outside the box a few mins later and a free kick was given!
Anyways, 2nd half was great, the result is very harsh on us i think. Hope next match MM starts with Kightly, we look and play much better when hes playing, Castillo is pants, Ebansk-Blake does not look fit enough right now, and Jarvis needs to run at the god damn defence! its what he good at!! hes got the pace but he just seems to stop and play it back far far to often...

Anyways, I still think we willstay up :)

You dont think Giggs (apart from the couching staff, other players and SAF) would have tried to assist him as many ways as possible in the last 2 and a bit seasons?

At a lesser club he would very probably more comparable to the other players around him - but I cant imagine him playing for RM or Barca or even Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool (maybe the latter two but he wouldnt step into the 1st team for sure, he would be in the same situation being an occasional sub and otherwise CC player) - to get consistant games he will have to step down a level to a mid table club or go abroad

Of course some very good players (like Veron) just never work at Utd for some reason, and some young players cant handle the pressure (which is totally understandable) - but Im sorry if Nani was ever going to show his ability consistantly, he would have done it by now

His crossing is attrocious, his shot taking is abysmal (occasional there is a really decent goal, but there is always about 10 - 20 shots if not more that are just totally wasted) - his decision making is also pretty awful as shown in the last few games

Has he really improved over the last two years? I personally dont think he has

Nani has the prospect, just needs to use it really. Ronaldo looked good, but similar to Nani originally (albeit started off a better player), but started slow. He'll come good, i reckon.
