Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 29-31

no, second look, it was obvious Lucas was commenting on the wonderful arrangement of banners and flowers at the ground.

Seriously though, it's just one of those things I think. You cant stop players being passionate about the game and so they're going to complain when they feel they've been hard done by, particularly if there's an advantage to be had.

I just don't like players asking for other players to be booked.
I think it's wrong, my opinion, don't like to see players do it.

Looking forward to playing Burnley. Makes a change to the teams that come up and play every man behind the ball. *cough* Brum *cough*
Birminghams tactics today were as if they were a Sunday pub team against the World Champions. Never seen a team defend quite as purely as that. MOTD highlights didn't show the game as it was today at all.... anything other than a home win would have been a travesty.

Thats where you fail, match of the day SELECTS WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO SEE. Unless you watch a FULL MATCH you have no idea how good a player is, which arguably is why people might think Song is good when he's horrendous, if they only show his succesful tackles and miss about the 15 fouls a game, then he might appear good, he isn't.

Arshavin is one of the top 3 in the prem, Torres isn't close as he has way to many games where he's hopeless and misses tap in after tap in, RVP probably misses out because he misses too many chances.

Either way, awful today, as in mostly great performance against what seems to be an incredibly average Utd, where we dominated the real chances and still smegged up. WHy Diaby or Song started I'll never know, both were woeful start to finish, Diaby's flashes of brilliance included two nutmegs where after he was done he looked like a lost child without a clue what to do next. He lost the ball frequently, as did Song by turning back towards their own goal then promptly losing it.

Song was insane, a on purpose handball he got away with a ludicrous challenge to get the yellow and several tackles in the first half alone that could have been a second yellow. He barely made a (bad) tackle in the second half for fear of being sent off, how we didn't take him off to put on a DM who could make a tackle I don't know. Diaby, awful, everything was awful, poor running, awful passing, slow running, barely closed down, put no effort in, awful infront of goal and scored a ridiculous own goal under no pressure at all without another player within 4-5 yards and still screwed his header up. Made no attempt at all to support RVP throughout.

Eboue, Arshavin(mostly poor first half till his goal, strangely, far better second half), RVP were all good but had little extra support and zero creativity in terms of passing in behind from the midfield 3 which ruined the game for us start to finish. Sagna wasn't fantastic at all, Gallas had a couple poor moments but mostly solid, Verm was solid, CLichy was mostly good.

The fact that Diaby and Song weren't taken off for the second half at 1-0 up when with even a semi decent player instead we would realistically have won easily.

Utd win with a dive, a freaking clear as day dive where he plants both feet and goes over and is at a 40 degree angle at best before theres any contact, and an own goal.

Had Wenger brought off our two worst instead of our two best players on the day we could have gone on to record our best victory at Old Trafford in the league for over 5 years, as it was Wenger screwed us monumentally and lost us the game before embarassing himself at the end.

As I've said since the FIRST PRESEASON GAME LAST YEAR, Song, Denilson and Diaby are simply crap, yes they aren't shown up against the bottom of the table teams, but against even average teams, which is all Utd were today, they are made to look like complete fools.

You know what? You can shoveall of that claptrap up yer jacksie.

I've been at two of Arsenal's games this season (you know, in the stands, where I can see the stuff sky don't want me to see (!?)) and Diaby, Song and Denilson have all been very good when they've been playing.

Ridiculous and pathetic own goal aside (and let's take it as a moment of madness rather than systematic of any underlying failings) Diaby has been a revelation this season, strong runs, good passing overall and much improved defensively when needed.

Song has also come on leaps and bounds and has made the defensive mid role his own, allowing Denilson to play further up the pitch and play the more attacking role he's used to.

Your favourite two have been a mixed bag. Eboue has looked good at times but still shames himself with ludicrous dives and often makes poor decisions wiht his final ball.

Bendtner has been unarguably attrocious . Frustrating in the extreme has been his unerring ability to get himself into goodpositions then waste the chance. everytime. without fail.

Anyway, rant over.

Todays game was a good overall performance marred by two moments of madness. Yes, Rooney dived but Almunia shouldn't have been there in the first place and did make contact, albeit with a Rooney already falling over. I can only assume Diaby realised Rooney was right behind him but he made a right horlicks of his header. Clear penalty on Arshavin but if it had been given he wouldn't have been in the position he was when he scored. Foster's save from Van Persie was key.

hahah wenger:

"I didn't know you were not allowed to kick a water bottle, although it was a good kick."

He is getting funnier as he gets older.

If it wasn't for Man U fans, I might actually like Man U.

I'm sure United would say the same for Arsenal as well ;)

Week in week out we here about Arsenal outplaying teams. The sad reality is that teams let Arsenal play these pretty little triangles in the middle 3rd of the field and it's in the final 3rd it all comes unstuck (Unless of course your Everton and as well all know *>Everton). Pretty little triangles don't win you the Prem unfortunately. Possession football counts for bugger all if you don't do anything with it
