Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 29-31

Claiming it didn't matter because he scored shortly afterwards is laughable. Of course it mattered and the ref waving play on just reinforced the assumption that you'll get nothing given at OT unless Fergie authorizes it.
Those stats posted above regarding number of pens given at the big 4 mean nothing. What you need to know are the number of 'stonewallers' waved away by the officials.

Arsenal, should have had a penalty, I have no idea why it wasn't given. Seeing out of the top 4, Manchester United have conceded the most penalties at home ;)

Arsenal, did score within a minute of the decision, in the same attack. Would they of still scored that goal if the pen was given ? or would they even of scored the pen ? who knows.

United, were given a penalty in the second half, Foster saved a great change from Arsenal and then Berbatov missed a golden opportunity, then Arsenal scored a bizarre own goal.

There are "stonewall" penalites waved away at almost all grounds each week, stop with the small club mentality of being hard done by, it is pathetic.

Arsenal played better, had a clear penalty turned down, rooney did dive as he started going down before almunia touched him.

On the other hand, almunia was very reckless (and stupid) for coming out like that when he didn't need to and might have taken rooney out even if rooney hadn't dived. Arsenal completely chucked the game away and man u were very, very lucky to get 3 points.

I think the 'fair' result was a draw. In terms of good chances the game was pretty even.

I dunno, Man Utd didn't have a lot of chances. They had the penalty and then Evra had a shot, there were obviously 1 or 2 in the last 5 or 10 minutes but when the game is at that stage there's chances everywhere, before that I thought that Arsenal kept Man Utd pretty silent and I forgot Rooney was on before the half time break

Neither team, had a lot of chances. Fletcher and Arsahvin both had early chances, then RvP and Diaby came close and Berbatov and Nani had chances late on. Those are the only ones that stand out in my memory.

Nani had two shots at once - Fletcher skied his decent chance early on, Rooney had one or two decent chances for him.....

I know VP did and Eboue and the new Centre half, but yeah I would say the chances where pretty even

Arsenal had a lot of possession, but where pretty wasteful in the last 1/3 it seemed (although the passing from both sides was pretty atrocious for most of the match) you really wherent in the penalty box that much

Here's something radical for Arse fans to mull over. If that clown you have in net didn't have a rush of blood and stood his ground instead of diving at Rooneys feet we wouldn't even be talking about this. Rooney was running across goal and it would have took some outstanding effort to beat Alumnia from where he was.

The laws of the game are very clear and unambiguous and it was a penalty. Whether Arse fans choose to believe them or indeed read them before spouting some of the crap in this thread then thats a different matter.

If a player trips or attempts to trip another player then its a pen. Simple. You can debate all day and all night long if Rooney was on his way down or not and there is nothing conclusive to prove either way. The only concrete thing from that whole passage of play is that Alumunia touched him. It makes absolutely no difference whatsoever if Alumunia played the ball first or not. The rules are very clear on that because if Almunia dived at the ball touched it first, caught Rooney but bounced out of his hands, it's still a bloody foul because he has tripped him.

Some fans on here believe the common myth that the rules aren't broke as long as the ball is played first and it's a nonsense.
