Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 3-5

Beginning to get worried now. We've lost to all four decent teams we've played against this season and been completely outplayed by two of them (Villa and Fiorentina).

All well and good destroying the crap teams but we still need to pick up a few points against the teams around us or the teams around us will be the likes of Eveton and Villa rather than Arsenal, Chelsea and United come the end of the season.

A fair result I think. Chelsea did much more with their attacks than we did. I think it just goes to further highlight that we still struggle to break tough teams down. I also think it further highlights the weakness inherent in only having Torres as an out and out forward.

On a negative issue, I really am just utterly sick to death of Drogba. I truly think that no footballer in all the decades of football I have watched annoys the hell out of me like Drogba does. The guy has talent, can turn a match in a second...but for the love of god does he really need to suppliment his game with so much theatrics? Just take the 2 chelsea frontmen today, Anelka and Drogba. Look back over the match and compare how often Anelka was on the floor and how much Drogba was. What is Drogba.. 5 ft 9? Weighs about 9 stone?

I heard rumours this week that Chelsea had contacted the met office to get detailed weather information for each match due to concerns that strong winds might affect their number 11.

Really lack creativity in the middle of the park and Kuyt offered us absoutely nothing today in terms of killer passes. I question if he would get in a Hull or Stoke team? I hear it quite a lot but I do wonder what would happen if we did lose Torres and Gerrard for a long period.

Missing Alonso bigtime. And then had no one to replace him IMO

We'll know a lot about how our season's going to pan out over the next 5-6 games. IINM we've got to play Utd and City at home and Everton away.

Today was just one of those days; our general play was pretty decent considering we were away to Chelsea and we didn't do too much wrong, it was small mistakes that cost us. Masch could have given the ball away in the middle of the park another 20 times and we wouldn't have conceded, the Torres chance got stuck under his feet on his wrong foot and there was even the half chance for Gerrard when the ball wouldn't come down for him and Cole made the tackle. The only big mistake was the Benayoun miss at which point the game was over.

Hopefully Aquilani can step up and help us out in midfield so in that respect I'm not that concerned.

What I am concerned about is our defending. Skrtel's been a bit up and down this season but Carragher's looked a mess. Wouldn't be surprised to see Agger making an appearance a lot sooner than expected.

Missing Agger, and Carragher is past his prime, IMO. But Aqiuiliano is made of ham.

Really can't see Liverpool challenging at all, their depth is pitiful and they really lacked any kind of creative spark today.

No idea why Benayoun didn't start, who I rate much higher than Kuyt or even Reira. Aquilani may make a difference but who know's as he has not been seen yet.

Ironically, today was probably the best we've defended all season. The way pre-season went and with the disruption of our back 4 it was never going to be easy, hopefully with a settled back 4 we'll kick on from today.

Also, regarding our midfield and Alonso/Aquilani/Lucas; i've said it before this season that Lucas is such an easy target and doesn't deserve 99% of the stick he gets. He's been far from great for us but equally he's been far from poor for us this season either and certainly not close to being as poor as a lot of other players. Alonso's a fantastic player and I was a massive fan of his but a lot of the comments about how our form's down to missing him is massively exaggerated; Alonso was never a overly creative player, his game was just about keeping the ball and getting it and giving it. And regardless of all that, we've not had a problem creating chances and going forward this season, our problems have been defensively.

6ft 2 i think and im sure he weighs more than 9 stone.

As a chelsea fan he annoys the hell out of me at times when he keeps falling over.

What's happened to Aquilani? Is he still injured? Any idea on a return date?

There's no real timescale but he's been back in training (gym and swimming) for a while and started running around a week ago. A lot of the rumours is that he could feature towards the end of this month providing everything goes ok.

I was slightly disappointed he didn't start but wasn't suprised at all. In midweek Benayoun gave Insua no cover, Riera will naturally offer more defensively and given our weakness in the air and Chelsea's strength in the air, Riera's added height was always going to be a factor too.

edit: And im still not sure who's a bigger ****, Drogba or Richard Keys?
