Weekend Football Thread. *spoilers* 3-5

Well I got to admit due to culinary duties i.e BBQ in Oct, I only saw bits here and there of the match. It seemed that after Chelsea scored, Johnson was used almost as a right mid fielder with Liverpool reverting to a back 3. Chelsea then played 3 up top which meant Gerrard, Mascherano and Lucas were starved of good possession.

Chelsea the made Liverpool play high up the pitch so that Torres didn't have a lot of space to run into. In as much as he is one of the best strikers on the planet, as long as I have a hole in my ass, he is never a target man so why keep using Kuyt and Yossi to play the ball into the box from wide and Johnson from outside the box

As I say I seen the match in fits n starts.

I wouldn't write Liverpewl off just yet but 3 defeats before the end of Oct means it's going to be a task and a half to win the league. In saying that, some of the defending by all teams in the prem has been gash, so who knows

except last valentines day when you didn't take Baz to Paris as promised. I hear he almost clawed your eyes out when he realised you'd just booked a cheap B&B in Dudley.

There is nothing wrong with Dudley!

It was a lovely day, he said he hadn't felt so good since Liverpool fluked the Champions League :(

Liverpool were poor and someone mentioned lack of depth, beyond their first team they have no real quality to bring on. Some of their first team shouldn't really be playing either.

People said Chelsea have amazing depth, which I just don't see, barely any wingers to start, two strikers, a single injury to either screws them completely, only in defence when everyones fit have they got depth, likewise attacking central mid/playmaker, sure, an injury to Lampard/Ballack/Deco isn't a real problem. How they've not ended up with more than 2 strikers after all this time I have no idea.

Drogba is a massive *****, but frankly I wasn't impressed(or surprised) by the absolute constant fouling by Torres, and Gerrard to a lesser extent. Torres constantly went over easy, just hoping for more contact, constantly asking for freekicks for nothing and he is one player in the league who just kicks out at everyone after the ball has gone. Was it Terry he got, you see in the replay, he after the ball had gone changed direction and purposely caught him. The entire game he just fouls everyone till he gets an advantage from it, Kevin Davies gives away more fouls but they aren't, nasty, and he's actually trying to win the ball the majority of the time.

Arsenal, superb in places, not too critical of the goals, Mannone should have done better for the first, thats life. Fabregas is simply superb, Arshavin was quality, RVP, Bendtner, Ramsey, Theo, Vermaelen, Gallas were all basically superb. Sagna, had a terrible game, went the first 25 minutes unable to find a team mate and had spells of terrible passing/positioning throughout, no idea where his form from two years ago has gone. Almost every time he got in the overlap he failed to deliver/beat his man, one great turn inside did his man late on but the pass was poor.

Diaby, despite a ridiculously dominate performance by the team, really wasn't involved, again defensively or offensively, poor passing, just can't see why he's on the pitch ever. he quite literally could have sat on the touchline and it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference. Bendtner, quality goal but his involvement when he came on, interplay, his running from deep onto the ball is what he does best and he helped create a bunch of chances. Could and maybe should have had 2, but its the movement/linking up that was such great quality.

Theo looking very dangerous when playing off the shoulder of the defence as usual, one touch and a goal, 3 touches, and poo :p

Liverpool V Chelsea game was alright.

Drogba was fairly awful, and I didn't think either side played well, Chelsea probably been the better side. Nice to see Mash come back and Liverpool still lose, after all that was made about missing him last game. :p Andy Gray really is a complete ****.

Quite enjoyed parts of the Arsenal game, played some really good stuff going forwards.

Beginning to get worried now. We've lost to all four decent teams we've played against this season and been completely outplayed by two of them (Villa and Fiorentina).

All well and good destroying the crap teams but we still need to pick up a few points against the teams around us or the teams around us will be the likes of Eveton and Villa rather than Arsenal, Chelsea and United come the end of the season.

dont worry Im sure everyone will be up for the Anfield meet a couple of weeks after the Int break, with both sets of defenders being pretty dodgy right now its all down to who can be more accurate the other end....

Don't look now, but he didn't actually say anything critical about the system OR Wenger!

AS it did against Everton and Pompie, honestly, you could play 11 of even our defenders, and score 4-6 goals, Everton aren't that bad, we caught them with lots of injuries, out of form players and got a great result, Pompie and Blackburn are just horrible teams, we played against 4 FULLBACKS today, and ripped their defence to pieces.

We've always looked great offensively, even when the rest of the world was twittering on about our lack of goals because we drew 4 whole games in a row last year, I constantly said that wasn't our issue. Putting 6 past a relegation team isn't our issue either. Its the 3-4 players who dissappear when they are put under real pressure that kills us.

THe most frustrating thing is playing Wigan and Blackburn and watching every Arsenal fan, pundit and the media proclaim us title contenders, just to get spanked against the next half decent team, perspective people, get some. Great win, but we need to do it against someone out of the bottom 6.

Spanked against the next half decent team? Arsenal were the better team against Man U and were really unlucky to lose, I didn't see the Man City game but even if Arsenal were outplayed its only one game!

Benitez was right when he said the top four would lose more games this season, Chelsea's geriatrics are one year older, Man U lost Ronaldo and Tevez, Liverpool lost Alonso and Arsenal lost Toure and Adebayor.

Arsenal are still title contenders for me, as long as they don't get any stupidly long injuries (to Fabregas or van Persie, for example).

Against Man City I think I saw the stats and Arsenal had something like 20 shots to City's 8, but that's the only game I haven't seen this season so can't comment further, by all accounts though it seems that game could have gone either way and City didn't play that much better than Arsenal.

I don't think Arsenal are particularly bad defensively, I just think their style of play leaves them a LOT more open at the back than most (any?) other team. You can't expect a team to constantly throw 7 or 8 players forward and then still have defensive cover, they only have 11 players on the field. I personally love the gung-ho (but still controlled) style of play and would take a 6 - 2 win over a 1 - 0 win all day long, even though some people would prefer the other way round. I encourage this attacking brand of play and would never criticise Arsenal for conceding 2 after a display like yesterday, it was beautiful.

Chelsea lucky to win today, Liverpool could have been two up at half time but for poor finishing and good goalkeeping. To their credit though, they took their chances that came up and we created few chances and didn't take them.

Oh and Drogba is a disgrace. That's all I have to say on that matter.

What game did you watch? To me it was pretty obvious Liverpool started the game with the intention of grabbing one point. I base this on the line-up and most of all the tactical setup. This mindset invited Chelsea to take charge of the game and bar for the first 15 minutes I thought Chelsea controlled the match quite well, with more attacking intentions.

As for Drogba yes, as a Chelsea fan, I agree his antics are pathetic. Unfortunately it is a part if his personality and we just have to live with it.

LOL at Ivanovic's superman dive :D
