Weekend Football Thread *spoilers be inside*

no it isn't. It clearly isn't admirable otherwise it would win everything. If Barca knew when to attack and defend then they would be dominating Spanish football (which they aren't)

What are you on about? They're top of the table having lost 0 games. Are you alright?

They know exactly when to defend and when to attack, they're excellent in defence. They just don't defend by flooding towards their own net ..

He doesn't just mean this season.

And the year before?

Since 2000 there have been two English winners of the Champions League. 4 Spanish winners, 2 Italian and 1 German, oh and Porto :p

You are getting confused between what is good football, and what is good football to watch. Just because you don't enjoy it, doesn't mean it isn't good football.

Good football is good to watch, winning at all costs isn't good football.

Yeah, one of those two have always dominated. No team in the world has dominated their league for it's entire history. I'd say 2 teams is a very small amount of teams to share the spoils year after year

Well, Real Madrid have predominantly dominated Spanish football...by quite a bit.

Tummy you are inconsistent. You say that teams who play beautiful football win competitions then you say english teams have dominated the cl by playing defensively and are boring.

I was talking about at an International level. English teams have only dominated the last 3/4 years of the Champions league, and this year have only 3 teams progress? English teams peaked already?

Barca are the best team in the world and with the players they have of course they play the way they do. Real have just spent £200mil to buy flair players so of course they will be good to watch. I bet if chelsea spent that money in one summer you'd say they were vulgar and trying to buy success...

I don't remember commenting on Real been "right" spending 200 million, I think it's wrong to try and buy your way to a title, Doesn't really matter who you are.

No, it depends on the players you buy, Chelsea haven't bought Kaka, Ronaldo and Alonso?

I don't watch the spanish league so can't comment on its overall quality. What I can say is that the english domination of the cl in recent years where we have 4 very high performing teams compared to spain's one suggests that we have more really good teams - this may be changing this year though.

English teams are overly phyiscal and defensive in Europe, Other teams attack and struggle to break them down, does this make the English league / teams the best? no, not really, just means that they're willing to sacrafice football to win.

Barca have always played good football, it was them go out against United a few years ago, and it saw them win everything last season.

Meh I'm just talking about my life time I guess, not sure what happened before then, just assumed it was mostly equal

Aye, think its 30 something titles to not even 20. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Barca/Real, but people seem to talk about the Spanish league, and just talk about them. Yes their games are always good, as they're two of the best teams in the world, but the other clubs aren't anywhere near as exciting.

Yep, Barca are almost the new kids on the block.
Real dominated Spain and are still the most succesful club in Europe.

Not really :p

No, but all Spain's teams do play good attacking football, which is a lot better then the long ball slug that is the Premier League.

Not really :p

Okay Barca have been around a while :p

Real Madrid have won the European Cup 9 times, runners up 3 times, more then anyone else. Milan second.

I also love watching Sevilla, Valencia, Athletico Madrid (more so before this season) and Villareal (before Pellegrini left). Think they all play some fantastic stuff which is very enjoyable to watch, also facilitated by the smaller teams all trying to play expansive football and not just sitting back. It's a very entertaining league

The last time I really enjoyed watching an English team besides Arsenal was Liverpool last year for a few months when they were playing really well, and that sucks.

Can't say I enjoy Tenerife, Racing, Sporting, Valladoid etc myself :p same goes for Stoke though :D

I guess we'll find out. I have been disappointed with man u and liverpool this year though. :p

Fair enough.

Well I think we probably tried to sign kaka would never have been able to sign the other two! According to reports we are trying to sign ribery and or aguero. We also tried to sign robinho. :o It's hard for us to attract the biggest names because we are still making a name for ourselves. Barca and Real have big histories and big names (and it helps that the tax rates for footballers is significantly lower in spain right now ;))

What you seem to be saying is that premier league teams don't have better teams but have more effective tactics. This might be true.

United are a good side, and Fergie's a top manager. They'll probably come good at some point, they always do. Liverpool have fallen away massivly.

Fair enough.

It's not right to buy your way to a title.

The Tax rates that are soon changing? hmm.

Barca and Real are two of the biggest clubs in European football, and they both have a rich and fantastic history and life style. Only two clubs that come near them in this country are United / Liverpool.

Chelsea are the new "rich" kids on the block.

Premier League lacks football, ruined by money and over hype from Sky and the Media. Spain have better footballers, Italy do, ect ect, but they're not always as physical as English players.

Better tactics? or just willing to sacrifice football to win and get more money.
