Weekly Playstation Store Update thread

I got the novastrike game off the US store this morning, thought it was quite fun, different enough to SSHD to be worth a purchse to be honest. Only had a quick go and and took a while to get used to the controls, the weapon upgrades look fun and it features ground and air attacks plus boss battles.
Im going to get Commando 3 dont look great but 3 player online co-op with voice chat should be fun. I also got the first episode of Qore downloading when i left so will have a look when i get home.

Hmmm... odd, I found them quite intuitive, which is surprising seeing as how useless I usually am at getting to grips with FPS games on a pad.

Things like the trigger being on the wrong button which is uncomfortable on the PS3 controller

I still can't get to grips with FPS games on a console yet really

Can someone tell me how to get rainbows in Pixel Junk Monsters? I've just done 4 levels, but need some Rainbows to get to the next part of the island.

Not sure really... I bought both games at the same time and 'Encore' seemed to just totally overwrite vanilla.

Yeah, but at the level select screen picking the left island loads the old game, picking the right island (Tiki?) picks new ones. I think you are on Encore cos it says 5 rainbows to progress on mine as well, Encore seems a lot tougher to get rainbows, the "easy" levels don't seem aptly named.

We've been used to getting more from SCEE over the last few weeks, so this update may seem a bit small. Considering most people will be busy playing Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online for the next few weeks (at least), we don't particularly mind. Despite that, there are two demos and an add-on pack for Guitar Hero III, so it's not a complete wash. Here's the full release list:

Playable content
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars demo (free)
Monster Madness demo (free)
Add-on content

Guitar Hero III "Isle of Wight" track pack (£3.99/€5.99)
Videos

Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer

Haze "Korn #1" trailer

Haze "Korn #2" trailer
Wallpapers and Themes

PixelJunk Monsters Rainbow theme
PixelJunk Monsters Bee wallpaper

I'm personally disappointed that Novastrike hasn't made it over here yet.
Two demos to have a look at, sure, but Novastrike UK release is what I'm waiting for, due to still never making an entropay card to buy US stuff.
Still waiting for Bionic Commando too ;)

715MB for a demo of a top down game  why is it soo big

I'm pretty sure most PS3 stuff is bigger than it could be, certainly the size difference between the same 360 and PS3 demos seems to suggest this.

More storage space by default would probably mean the devs don't put as much effort into compressing things down.

No idea, I've not played it yet.
Is it rendered in 3D?

I have Shadowgrounds Survivor on the PC.
That's a top down game, but using 3D card tech for graphics, and that's 1.1gb.

If it's just predrawn sprites then you'd expect it to be smaller, but if it's a 3D engine, then that would explain it?

What an awful game that monster madness is! I played it on the 360 ages ago so thought this was a sequel, but no... The graphics look like a PS2, the gameplay is awful and the screen tearing is the worst I have seen on any game. It shouldnt be a full title its nothing more than a PSN game, and a bad one at that...

Too bad you didn't like it.

I just had a go, and had a smile on my face the whole way through.

First, it's Unreal Powered, so that explains the size I guess.

As for the graphics, they are what they are.
They're not bad, in the sense that the graphics on Calling all Cars are bad.

It's comic book humour, gritty grainy effect, and I thought it was good.
On "Level 3" though I did notice the tearing you're talking about.

I wouldn't call it a full game, I assume this is to be a PSN game?

I certainly wouldn't pay full price for it, but if it appears on the PSN for a fiver, I'll pick it up.

It's just a fun little game, I thought the stylized graphics worked quite well, apart from the tearing, and after a few mins, when I got used to the controls, I was enjoying blowing the zombies up with bombs and physics objects!

Still, to each their own!

Vin.
