Welcome to hell weekend

Christmas boggles my mind. It's the most bizzarre, mixed up, crazy and largely pointless festival in existance. It's pagan slash christian slash coca cola. It's like something out of a terry pratchet novel.

And today is the start of the last weekend before christmas, which means all hell is going to break loose around the shopping area's. Not looking forward to todays shopping at all. My plan is to head out early, like 8:30 to avoid the worst of the chaos (sorry, I mean 'christmas spirit').

Bah humbug.

Anyone else formulating a battle-plan for the next couple of days?

Yes, work today and tomorrow, off Monday where I'll avoid the shops by going for a nice walk somewhere, then back in to work Tuesday - Friday.

Bah Humbug indeed.

Christmas is the single best time of the year. I absolutely love it. I love how busy the highstreet is, I love buying presents for people, I love the dinner, I love seeing the family, I love people being happy on Christmas day and I used to love working on Christmas day.

I'm not looking forward to new years eve either, damn people playing their crappy music too loud making a bloody noise all night. I think it was a few years ago or so we had some ******* drunken idiots walk into our garden during the night and have a go on our trampoline, and they left a load of beer cans on the garden. DAMN SCUMBAGS. It only we lived in America, we could have shot them.

I fully agree, the sooner Christmas and New Year celebrations are banned the better. The most base of human desires and behaviour are on display at this time of year. Horrible.

I am currently in NZ for Christmas and it doesn't seem to have the same level of frenzy at all. (Today in Rotorua seemed to be just another day). Looking forward to the day itself as we are staying with family.

However, at home, I love this time of year, I just tend to avoid the shops. Get to spend a lot of time with friends and family.

Done all my shopping already, as to avoid the rush, so no, I'm not really bothered about this weekend :) Working all day today (start in about 5 mins) and wll probably sleep most of tommorow :D

Well im back from finishing my last bits of shopping. Got to town at 8.45am and all done in one hour... no stress whatsoever :)

Mind you the queues to get in the car parks were mental as i was leaving..

Suddenly i feel gloating coming on :D

Me too. I went out at 8am and it was actually quite calm and (dare I say) pleasant. But at around 9 it started to pack out, and going on for 10-ish it was starting to get nasty - people bumping into each other and rushing around etc. I certainly don't envy the afternoon shoppers.

Finished all my present shopping Monday.

Did my food shopping yesterday (when it was already getting like the cold war)

Now I just have to hope I can get to football ok today and then I dont have to go out again until I have to travel to the 'rents on Crimbo eve.

That pretty much sums it up for me, bar the working. Who cares if it's too commercialised these days - rise above it, don't bankrupt yourself (there's absolutely no need to spend more than £50/person) and embrace the Christmas spirit of fun, festiveness (is that a word?) and goodwill.

Re: Shopping, find a supermarket open late and do it while most people are getting drunk in the pub. Late night shopping is very relaxing.

It's pagan slash christian slash Roman wine festival?

Fixed.

It's great if you view it in the right way. A time for the family to re-unite spend some time together. Eat and drink some great produce. That's all it is for me :).

My plan. Walk into town to buy my last present from the market. Already now where and what it is.

Then drive back to parents. Meat my sis and bro that I haven't seen in a few months. And start drinking again. Probably watch some films and play some board games.
