Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

All of these pictures are really putting me to shame. I've got a keychron k2, I thought that was nice. I genuinely had not appreciated what a rabbit whole this might be.
Yeah it's a nightmare. I would say mod the K2 with better keycaps and switches that are better suited for your needs before throwing money at a new keyboard.

I'm going to replace all my linear switches with tactile ones at some stage because I have linear on my Q2 keyboard and I hate them. I'll get noisy AF switches for it as they feel the best and I won't take it into the office.

I use my Nuphy Halo 65 for in office use as it's heavy but small and I can be up and running with it in a flash.

I do wish Nuphy made UK ISO layout keyboards tho :(

I've been using an EVGA Z15 keyboard since May that has silver speed switches, so very light operating force and very high activation point. I use the keyboard for work more than gaming and have slowly been getting better at typing on it, but I do bottom out keys a lot when typing so I ended up adding O rings to each keycap which has helped as it has made the bottoming out slightly shorter and less noisy, but I still find I make too many typing errors for my liking.

I was contemplating replacing the switches in it as I like the general look of the keyboard and its very well put together for a £35 (when I bought it) mechanical keyboard, but yesterday I was sitting in bed at about 11pm browsing the sales as you do and ended up buying a Keychron V5 with Brown swtiches. I went back and forth over red or brown, red or brown and as stated opted for the browns as I think 80% work and 20% play makes them a better choice than the reds.

Question now is what to do about keycaps lol. That is a whole big world I am not certain I want to delve into, but at the same time am really compelled to. Any top recommendation websites to go to for actual UK ISO key caps, so many say they are, but never seem to include a UK 2 based on the pictures I have seen.

And now I’ve seen the Epomaker rt100 and want that as well.

Received my V5 yesterday and started using it this morning. Taking a little getting used to the slightly compact size, but it is definitely a better typing experience than the Z15. Only thing I preferred on that so far are the RGB options.

Sorry, only just seeing this. Did you sort Keycaps? Imagine it came with the standard OSA keycaps Keychron use?

I'd say decide on the profile you're interested in (this may involve trial and error). Cherry are probably most widely available (and OC stock them) but it depends on your preference. Material is another question; PBT is usually cheaper than ABS but again, it comes down to preference of material/sound etc..

I'm not rushing into anything, I have the V5 and am waiting for the RT100 to be delivered, so I can compare and see which one I like the most as the V5 can be returned until end of January. I've seen one set of Keycaps that interest me Jaketsai "The monster", but at £43 I'm not in a rush to change the standard ones out just yet.

Keychron keycaps are actually pretty good quality in my experience, and also sound and feel pretty premium. But I imagine the urge to mod is strong :D

SA Keycaps take a bit of getting used to after Cherry/OEM, but there are a bunch on popular web retail sites (Also some are Jaketsai branded, although I suspect they're all from one factory) and for the money they're fantastically good. Lots of colour options, they have all the UK/ISO keys and a really nice almost oily smooth feel. With lubed switches (I prefer linears with SA, but they still work well with tactiles) they are pure ASMR. The only thing they don't do well is transmit RGB.

I need some advice from the keyboard pros! I've just purchased a keyboard with Epomaker Flamingo switches which sound great but they're too light. I'm thinking of changing them for either the Gateron Milky Yellows or Pro Yellows as they should be similkar but with a heavier initial load.

Anyone have experience of these that can give me some feedaback. Thanks :)

If you love the sound profile of these but don't want to swap them out for something else, do a spring swap. I've done this to a flurry of my switches cos i feel they are too light especially for linears.

Get your springs here, Sprit springs are the best on the market. Google The Keyboard Company and search Sprit Springs. I can't link it cos they sell mechanical keyboards as well unless the mods are okay with it?

Thanks for the link. That looks like a great option :)
