Well this looks awesome!.. Asus Eee Transformer Tablet

Must say it certainly looks interesting. Really surprised by the price! if i was going to buy a tablet i think this may be it.

hmm

EEE Transformer Pad: 271 x 177 x 12.98mm, 680g
iPad 1: 243 x 190 x 13mm , 680g(730g in 3G guise)

That makes it look VERY similar to the size of the original iPad, but with a much better screen, better spec and cheap

very interesting!

I really fancy one. My laptop is on the blink and I think I could get away with one of these as my mobile machine. Work wise I only really need office apps.

How will copy and paste work with the keyboard?

I have preordered one with keyboard from Amazon, ETA 19th April. :)

If it appears in shops on the 6th though I'll buy one and cancel my order.

Why is this in the mobile phone thread section?

Because it's an Android tablet, and it was unanimously agreed in a thread I made a while back that people preferred to see Android based tablets in mobile section.

Edit: and it has smartphone-ish hardware.

Think it's time there was a dedicated android sub forum a la apple, there's certainly the numbers and market diversity to warrant it

Also no one seems to care about tablets in Laptops section. I started a Moto XOOM thread when it was shown a couple of months ago, thread was DOA; No one cared.

Can anyone else see this being really top heavy? With all of the gubbins in the tablet rather than the base of a conventional laptop, surely the things just gonna tip over unless the keyboard has some considerable weight to it? Seems totally pointless to me. I can also see it playing havoc with the hinge mechanism, I reckon it will be a major ballache to open it up one handed for instance...

both the parts weigh the same and I'm sure Asus would have dealt with your theoretical problem.

This is awesome. Now need to sell my laptop which gets about 2 hours use a month.

IPS panel is amazing!

i'd rather see a tablet section (ie not in laptops or phones)

Maybe in the future but not yet, there aren't enough Android tablets around at the moment and the mobile phones section is hardly at GD-level popularity when it comes to new threads. :)

the review states that the battery in the base counters this

One major plus is the that this is the most likely tablet to depreciate quickly, no one likes acer so maybe itll be <£300 after a few months. Which would be awesome.

$399 in the US!! This really ought to sell well.

Asus have produced a brilliant product. Motorola have started crying.

Asus have built a pretty good reputation via netbooks/subnotebooks.

I don't think the price will drop too much on this, that brilliant screen will keep it high regardless of popularity. (all £300-£400 netbooks have crappy screens)

So... Honeycomb + cheap wifi version on release + best screen yet + 16 hour battery life + cursor input = WIN!

Time for a poll?

  • Finally, now I can ditch my Netbook/Laptop.
  • It's a rubbish idea, nothing beats a basic tablet like the iPad 2 or Samsung 10.1/8.9.
  • I'm waiting for a Kal-El powered/thinner version in Autumn/winter.
  • £300 or GTFO
