Wetherspoons

Just to add, the only wetherspoons by my home, 'The Hornet' is the biggest chav/scumfest around, always fights and stuff kicking off, one of the few places I'd refuse to eat out at.

care to fill us in on what this thread is really about?

Yep - basically I've started working in a Wetherspoons in Haslemere, and was curious as to what the general public thought of the company, and what their reputation is.

I'm not very happy with some of the responses though, I want to change things.

You've been employed as management?

I've been offered a team leader position, just waiting until i've been there for 3 months to take it. After that its been made clear to me (by the Chairman of the company himself) that I'll be progressing very quickly.

The one in Exeter is pretty good, I eat there a fair bit with family etc.

I don't like the place much in the evenings though, fills up with some very unsavoury characters.

To summarise, it's a nice place during the day, but more needs to be done to keep the doss out in the evenings.

So you are just run of the mill staff at the moment?

How did that conversation transpire may I ask?

At the moment, yes.

The Chairman came in on a visit, and the manager referred him to me to chat.

Back in my student days, I'd turn up at about 10am ish and just work in there for 4 hours or so. Wonderfully peaceful and no-one can find you. Aside from that, good if you need a bite and don't have much wonga.

lloyds - open late, cheap all the time, a lot of scum in there on weekends, quite often the place we end up in on weeknights -just becuase of the cheapness, when there's lots of us there, it doesn't really matter about the scum, just ignore them..

wetherspoons - ok place to go for a chilled out coke/pepsi after getting off the train, never go in there to get drunk

based on cardiff venues :)

i think my flatmate from uni, is now the manager/similar.. in the ponty branch -brave girl!

I end up in them both quite a bit, not really any atmosphere and the food is hardly the greatest but overall I dont mind them. Im indifferent really.

Sounds like the standard pep talk dynamic companies give all new starters.

Probably, but hey, it inspires me :p

Plus, I want to progress in the trade, so anything it takes :)

My local one isn't bad, wouldn't stay there all night lack of atmosphere, good meeting up place though before we head off somewhere else.
