And the UK doesnt? (except the middle east part, we get on better i think!)
We have a great standard of living but it's nothing compared to America.

In fact insurance was the only thing stopping my parents buying a Cooper over a Cooper S.

I do think he'll miss out on some things in life. Where will he go from an M3 at 16?
He'll never really get the pleasure of getting something you've dreamed of and worked hard for.
In the pics he posts later it just looks wrong. I've known people with allsorts of cars as a first so the topic in hand doesn't bother me. The colour and the chrome grille just don't suit the M3. I it looks pretty regular from front.
I suppose I'm spoilt by the gnarly loud very clean white M3 with carbon roof that I see round here (probably a drug dealer) but that just doesn't scream auto lust to me like an M3 should.
she didn't want a Cooper S.

That's not at all true. A far, far high proportion of us live in comfort than in America. A huge number of people in America live in what we'd call abject poverty. We have a great standard of living but it's nothing compared to America.
i see nothing wrong with that sentence
an M3 isn't really that expensive though is it? remember that VAT is much lower, along with car-related taxes the OTR price will be much lower (relatively)

I'll look forward to scottering around in it and driving an E93 BMW third party too.
What do you mean? If i was totally loaded, i'd have a games room for my kids with big tv etc, send them to the best schools and pay out the nose for it etc. Buy them a car, a desirable car. Obviously they wont be able to pay for insurance, i would pay that. However, they'd have to pay for their own damn fuel! BUT...what i'm saying is it's a gift, its all relative. A lot people get cars bought by their parents and sometimes they want their kids to have the best. Whether its appropriate or not doesnt always come into it, but thats not how to live life.
