What are people view on the game rage ?

I still have nightmares over the close up textures. So so bad.

I had it tweaked so that texture quality was vastly improved compared to most people's screenshots and pop-in almost non-existent but sadly don't have the settings any more :( IIRC one of them was tweaking the mt page sizes to 8K - still some areas where the textures are ridiculously low detail close up though.

EDIT: Even then it was only about twice the surface detail compared to most screenshots - which for areas of brickwork, tiles, etc. is still about half the quality of recent high res texture games.

Add the below to launch options in Steam, 90 in my preferred FOV but you can just change the number to make it narrower or wider.

thanks for that going to try that later :)

Thoroughly enjoyed it when it came out. Voice acting was great and I really liked the art style.
Downsides was the locked FPS, though it didn't really cause me too many problems on the hardware I had at the time and some of the missions make you go back and forward over the same bits repeatedly and with bog standard respawning enemies as soon as you round a corner it became tedious.

It's like a single player borderlands but without all the rubbish loot.

Had a go at this last night as my PS3 version wouldn't install. Texture loading when turning really ruins the immersion. Need to find a way to fix that. Is that the texture pop everyone refers to? Would moving it to my SSD help?

EDIT: Also, why is AF only allowed to be a maximum of 4x instead of up 16x (which apparently was allowed in a pre-patch version!)

So I upped all the textures to 8k (can do 16k as well apparently). Looks better. Managed to get rid of most of the texture streaming pop, although there is conflicting on how to do this.

I also moved rage from the HDD to the SSD as it says it is streaming from HDD. Don't bother, it had zero impact.

Finished this last night and while I enjoyed it overall I left feeling rather underwhelmed.
I didn't complete a single side mission as I didn’t need the money so there was no incentive or use any of the 'exotic' artifacts' and just flogged them and hardly made anything other than a few EMP grenades and lock picks.

I also didn’t play a single card game or any of the related activities which seemed to be a big part of the game but for some reason wasn't integrated into the crux of the plot and its progression.

Even more disappointing was the last level was easier than the first due the laser minigun thing being ridiculously powerful and me buying shed loads of ammo because I flogged everything! I didn't even realise it was the last level and when the ending fired up in front of me I couldn’t believe it!

Apart from initial technical issues I loved the game, awesome mechanics/weapons etc general gameplay. Just a shame the ending was crap. .so abrupt!.
Rage had much more potential just it felt unfinished to me.

Will definitely play through again at some point just to frag some post apocalyptic punks.

Just played through a Mission where you take on a load of British talking punks to get some car parts for the buggy they are going to give you.... was fantastic :)

Bought Rage a while ago during a Steam sale. It is THE only game I've never actually got to work.

It just didn't. No matter how much I fiddled and faffed it would not run properly. It stares at me from my Steam game list, I want to kill it.

How did you manage that ?

That is a good part I enjoyed that bombed through it like I was on a speed run just suited the game great!

What is the issue with it?

Strangely, I've just played a couple of hours of the game and it's fine. Loading screens take an age and texture fill when you turn quickly is a bit naff but other than the odd hesitation it played OK.

Before it was unplayable as it randomly started to lag to the point of not moving. Odd as I don't think I've changed anything.

8K makes a fair difference - its not really worth going to 16K - IIRC there are 2 textures in the whole data lump that benefit from going above 8K neither of which are used anywhere you'd really notice the difference - unless they did finally release the big texture lump which has a lot of textures at twice the resolution of the retail release but last I checked they never released it (was like an additional 64GB of data or something).

I noticed that having the game set on 16k textures (unless I was getting the setting wrong!) really ruined my fps. Set back to 8K and I'm at constant 60fps (capped), and it still looks much better.

And wow, at that huge mutant lol. He's a tough fella.

IIRC 16K basically duplicates data for a lot of textures so you end up with higher IO utilisation and more memory space used for little actual gain.
