What are the worst “console” practices that have crept into PC gaming?

Lazy how? Genuine question as all I know is I bought it, it played well, looked fantastic, never crashed, controls were fine, an all round fantastic game. I have no idea how it compares to console, what is missing/was added, it's just a great game.
I completed both on the ps4, and have been playing the first on the pc port... Seems decent? No issues and obviously better graphics/fps, no crashes... Win win?

The control method is incredibly annoying in Starfield, above all that there’s no straightforward way to remap buttons. I ended up using a 3rd party app with simulates an Xbox controller to use my HOTAS.

Yes the whole interface on Starfield is horrible. Large buttons, clumsy, slow. It's clearly made for a console pad.

It needs a complete redo, which hopefully a modder will sort out once the tools are available.

I remember when games challenged you. It's a rare thing nowadays.

Now all gamers are treated like the thickest plebs on the planet. Go here, do this, do that, chat to them, grab this. You all have Xray vision, everything soaks bullets. Mashing a button passes as skill. You can sneak past the enemy with zero effort, or the opposite they have x-ray vision and can unrealistically see you through walls 80 miles away. Etc etc. Sigh.

Elden Ring was the first game in years that didn't bore me. It didn't hold my hand, I could go where I wanted. It lets you discover stuff even if that was to your doom. Enemies kicked your but if you weren't good enough. It didn't cheat to make things a challenge, which meant the satisfaction of progression was fantastic...Just how games used to be.

Perhaps I'm too old, and the shiny flashing colours are all the kids want today.

Bah Humbug :D

At the moment I'm trying my hardest not to be bored with Starfield....

The worst bit about the pre-decided save points is how terribly they're often planned.

There's a big boss. Fairly good chance you're going to die fighting him. Maybe multiple times. So we'll put in save point. Just before him? Nah. Let's have an unskippable cut scene full of exposition after the save point and before the boss.

Agreed. All part of the move from player skill and practice to player grind to acquire whatever is important in the game (eg skills in Starfield, power ups in many games).

That’s one reason I love DCS, and it just doesn’t hold your hand. You either learn real world procedures or don’t fly.

Massive ******* icons all over the ******* screen showing you where to go, what to do and what to interact with. Whatever happened to allowing people to just explore and figure **** out for themselves?

I think the basic and uninteresting AI in many games is partly to blame on consoles as well - I can make something more interesting and involving to play against without touching pathfinding, learning behaviour, avoidance, etc. let alone putting those kind of features into use :s

When players have a 30 second attention span and forums are littered with 'I didn't know where to go or what to do so I turned it off. Trash game.' developers will as good as put giant flashing arrows that say 'go here!'

Forcing us to play with console players ;)

In all seriousness though, things that have already been said like the holding of keys etc. It's probably done for portability due to the cross platform nature this day and age

Bf2042 which I hate but somehow still play

I really want to see what dice do next after that pos, by far the worst game in the series. I love how they claimed it had more developers working on it than any other Battlefield and look what they churned out, a big hunk of ****. Realistically the dev pile on was probably due to them scrambling to make a release date.

Iirc the game was made by a bunch of interns.

Reading some of the games sub forum and realised one that i think was imported over. Graphics boners.

It might just be how i perceived the general gaming industry, but the emphasis on graphics over all else really has decreased gameplay quality. Even that chap from Worthabuy goes on about graphics

Aim Assist in Multiplayer games... Need help with aim? Tough *** we had to learn with a mouse and keyboard!
Lack of essential PC features such as a FOV, not everyone sits 40 foot away from a TV
No server browser because the poor console peasants need instant server access

Oh lord, as someone who's lived on PC FPS for years, aim assist does my head in
