What book are you reading...

Just finished The Rook by Daniel o'Malley.

The tagline says 'MI5 for wizards' which was a turn off, as I was expecting a more 'Harry Potter for grown ups' cash-in.

The low expectations helped, as I greatly enjoyed it. Good modern fantasy which reminded me of China Mieville's Kraken, which isn't a bad thing.

Just finished this, i actually enjoyed it.
Its like Men in Black but based in London.

Grrrr. Midway through reading Words of Radiance, and there's a page ripped all the way across halfway down! Miffed isn't the word, and I've gotten rid of my receipt now :(

Luckily the tear isn't on any lines of text.

Just read Ender's Game, and really enjoyed it. Finished it the following day to starting.

I'd somehow managed to not know the slightest thing about the storyline, so I didn't know what to expect at all.

As a kid, my parents bought me a book from a bargain place (Born Free I seem to remember!) and some pages in the middle had no printing on them. Very frustrating!

Spamming this great deal; all the GoT books for eight quid ATM. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Game-Thrones-Continues-Swords-Dragons-ebook/dp/B007B5EDEG

But while I'm here, I'm now also trying to get into 'Way of Kings'. So far (about 10%) I confess it's a bit of a struggle.

I'm waiting for the various disjointed threads to start to tie up in some way. I am also rather allergic to his 'spren' concept, which smells a bit Harry Potter/Disney to me. I'm getting enough story to drag me on though. Just :-)

Still making my way through the Jack Reacher series, started the first (Killing Floor) in October, currently half way through "The Affair".

Then have the following lined up: -

The Mind's Eye - Hakan Nesser
Fall of Giants - Ken Follett
Winter of the World - Ken Follett

I've just finished "The Technician" by Neal Asher. Not one of his better books, and main plot and sub-plots didn't really mesh properly. But still fun.

Now just started "Embassytown" by China Mieville.

Just finished Words of Radiance - reasonable, didn't live up to expectations apart from a few truly majestic chapters.

The arena battle was absolutely fantastic, probably the highlight of the entire book for me.

Getting a bit bored of the whole Kalidan moral dilema angle. Felt like a massive rehash of the problems he had in the first book.

I'm not a big Shallan fan at all, character is rather annoying so the focus on her made the book a bit less enjoyable for me.

Having said that, we are set up for a pretty epic third book.

Now I really need to find something new to read as I'm scraping the bottom of already scraped barrels.

Finished The Bookman Histories by Lavie Tidhar.
It's an alternative history trilogy set during the nineteenth century, dealing with the political landscape of a Great Britain ruled by lizard Royalty and beset by robots (much more interesting than it sounds!). The story isn't deep, but it is enjoyable and the author clearly had fun mixing historical famous people into the plot.

Just finished Storm of Swords and Pet Semetary!

Starting Feast for Crows now... However it's becoming increasingly difficult to get good reading in due to exams approaching now though :(

Starting book 10 of Wheel of Time. The prologue is 96 pages :( :). Sometimes I rage when books move away from the main characters. Not just Wheel of Time, any books.

Currently just past page 600. I'm not sure if this is a spoiler but (no plot talk):

This is possibly the most boring book I've ever read. Sticking with it simply because I want an ending, and I've been told it starts picking up soon.

Currently on page 415 of book 10. :)

I do think the story is too bloated with too many characters and plots. Would have been a lot better to trim the story and lose a few books.

Still, it is enjoyable so far, so I will keep reading till the end.

Oh, and is it me, or is Faile one of the most annoying characters ever created? :)

toward the end Jordan had a complete hard on for powerful women who demean men. He clearly had issues and was a recurring (and irritating) feature of his books especially second half of the series.

Just started The Name of The Wind to see what all the fuss is about :p

I just finished Blood Song by Anthony Ryan, I think it came through a Kindle recommendation after I read Words of Radiance and very much enjoyed it. It's the first of a trilogy with the second book due out in a couple months. Noteworthy as the author independently published it as an e-book (for $2.99) and then picked up by Penguin who jacked up the price to $6.99 to match the printed version which they published :p

Red Mars. read it when I was younger so thought i'd pick it up again and go through it, green mars and blue mars too :)

I've just started reading through this, it's a really complex read. The copious amounts of footnotes and references make it quite confusing.

However, I'm around 60 pages in and have just gotten to a really interesting bit, I just hope it keeps it up

I finished reading this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the main story, but the side story of Johnny Truant was just really boring.
It wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
