2nd read killed it for me, I enjoyed it the first time, second time you realise it's actually pretty poor and incredibly lazy. I'm hoping the film has a bit of a re-write how he solves the clues after the first gate is cleared. Good start, great end, middle is just awful.
Just about to finish reading Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World - I'm about 5 chapters from the end I think.
I got about 70% through and lost interest for some reason a while back. This time I absolutely loved it, especially towards the end.
Useful resource for anyone wanting to get back in to the series, or just to refresh your memory when some character from way back in the book appears again: http://www.thonky.com/wot/ - they have spoiler protection on there so you set which chapter you're on and it'll only show info from everything up until that point.
Next up: 1984. Never read it before. I hear it's pretty good
Jonathan Renshaw. Dawn of Wonder(The Wakening book 1). This came up for sale on Kindle and I said I would give it a go. Really enjoyed it. The only disappointment with the book was when I came to the end. It was only then I released that the Author still has to write the next two books
Not sure where my reply went which I typed about a week ago. Have just finished Deaths Mistress by Terry Goodkind. Felt a bit disjointed in places, as if he was winging it without a lot of story arc planning, but still enjoyable.
Moving onto "Into The Black" as recommended earlier in this thread. Loving it so far, about a third of the way through.
Not started it yet but I have Mark Beaumonts latest cycling adventure where he cycles th length of Africa unassisted in 50 days.
I've. Read his previous books, where he cycled the world & then length of North & South America, & they were both good reads so expecting more of the same.
The final three completed by Sanderson are different, noticeably so initially but after a few chapters the difference in style became less obvious. He works at a quicker pace than Jordan, but is less detailed. After the slight slowing down a couple of books earlier, the final three do round the series up quite nicely.
Once you finish TEoTW I would recommend going straight into TGH, as the books really start picking up speed and the mythology starts shining through. From the early/mid-part of TDR through to the ending of LoC is my favourite section of any fantasy series.
I will start book 11 by the end of the week when I've finished the Julius Ceasar-series by Conn Iggulden. I started to read WoT about 20 years ago but I stopped when there was no more books to be read as he hadn't published more ones. So now it is time to finish it off. What I understand from the last 3 books is that Jordan had left a looooot of material about the ending so Sanderson pretty much just had to tie it together. It will be interesting to read the last books as even though I love them, they can be very slow at times.
The most annoying things with my books is that after I've gotten through half of the series there came a new edition so half the books are have a different cover on them... Very frustrating..
Just started the expanse series. Is something I want to watch as well, but hate watching one series at a time, so probably a fair few years till I watch the shows. Plenty of time to do the books
Finished Ben Kanes Spartacus, loved it, then finished both the Themis files books: Sleeping Giants and Waking gods. Cannot recommend them highly enough, done in the style of World War Z but like the Martian the audio book is so well done it has to be done that way rather than read. Alien invasion books with a nice twist.
I'm still in a lull for reading at the moment and struggling to pick up and get into books.
That being said just smashed off another brilliant Andrez Bergen effort "Bullet Gal" and eventually got round to reading "Altered Carbon" not much left to read and it has been brilliant, picked up the second one already. Also picked up "Factotum" after loving "Post Office" as it has eventually been released on kindle.
