What book are you reading...

Just finished readin game of thrones - a storm of swords on to the fourth book now. Lots of twists and I like how some parts of the book overlap to tell the same point in time from different characters. It's very in depth story telling and actions of one character in one chapter can be seen, heard or felt by other characters in following chapters.

It's nice to see a character yelling out through fear in one chapter and then another character hearing it far away in another.

Just about to finish the last installment (2 chapters left). It's been fantastic so far and hope when he releases the future books they are along the same lines.

Not sure what to read afterwards though, any recommendations for books along the same lines?

Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin series, one after the other, nice easy reading, pretty gutted there's no more :(

Fifty Shades Darker..

just finished the first one to see what the fuss was about..

Just reread all the Harry Potter books, as well as the Old Kingdom trilogy by Garth Nix, now I've started the wheel of time books by Robert Jordan. If anyone hasn't yet read the Old Kingdom books, they're very good, even if aimed at young adults, a well described world, a unique magic system and a decent storyline, without getting too long, very easy to pick up and not put down again!

Finished listening to an audiobook of 'pushing ice' which was good - I actually quite liked being able to listen and do something else at the same time e.g. minecraft, plus the actual story was quite good as well - enjoyed the concept, and the personal relationships which took up a fair amount of the book were interesting, although I lost empathy for one of the characters about half way through.

I will now go back onto 'Bleak House' which I got 1/3rd through and lost interest. I will finish it this time!

Re-reading Song of Ice and Fire. I read the first three books about six to eight years ago, and also read them fairly quickly. Now I'm going back and being a lot more careful, catching things that I missed the first time, or had forgotten. Partway through book 3 ATM.

Coming up to about a third of the way into the first Malazan book, Gardens of the Moon, and I have to say I'm enjoying it, even if I have a very tenous grasp on all the different narative threads at the moment. I have a feeling however, when they all start to properly interweave and come together, that it'll be very satisfying.

Just finished - Transmission: Ragnarok: Book Two (Ragnarok 2) by John Meaney.

Stonking Scifi book and I'm looking forward to the third part which is as yet unreleased.

Don't know what to read next though

To any Erikson fans looking for a fix try "The Black Company" books by Glen Cook. Just finished the first trilogy (all in one edition) and it was really good. Starts slow but it gets very pacey, action packed and gritty and tends to avoid all the old clichés. Really good and I'm ordering the second trilogy edition soon.

Reading "Sidetracked" by Henning Mankell at the mo.

I'll give The Black Company a go, but i am currently organizing some time off to re-read Books 1-10 of the Malazan Empire.
