Thanks for that, but if the first quote I got is anything to go by then I am screwed! £2600 for TPFT cover :(

I am sure I can get it down, not really tried yet, but as for alloys etc I dont think I will be able to afford them, as well as insure and run a 600cc sportsbike and still be 17.

let me get this straight.. ya got a car before you get any insurance quotes on it? lol

silly

depending on where you live.. you could be paying anything

im 21 and i pay £1200 on a old worthless seat ibiza 1.4

Try quotes with Nationwide and Sky insurance...both very good. Admiral/Elephant can be good as well. Sky have given me a stonking renewal quote, I just hope they can honour it in about a month's time.

The newer Corsa's aren't that bad..I don't think so anyway. Considering you have a bike all the car is for really is going from A to B in the dry. And its a free car!

you saying that would make sense if he'd bought something with a big engine, but he's unlikely to find a cheaper car to insure than a 1.2 corsa :)

Tom.

EDIT: you'll be able to do far better than £2600, i live in a crap postcode and i'm 17, and managed to get £2k as my first quote from Direct Line with no named drivers :) An 18 year old that doesn't live in Manchester will be able to do better :p

the auto box's in those are all semis arent they?
tbh they are fun little gearboxs imo

£2.6k isnt that bad i suppose, atleast you didnt pay £9k for one :P

Yer they are all semi's, which were manual boxs adapted via a pin/leaver type system to push in the clutch if I remember right.

We had a 03 Reg one brand new while I was working for a hire car company. It was SO bad we didn't let it out for hire. I can't describe how bad it was because words don't do it justice. Maybe it was just a bad one but after it going into be looked at multiple times they never fixed the problem.

Main issue was the fact it took 2seconds (and i'm not jokeing) to change gear. Made it a dangerous car to drive. Even useing the tiptronic thou a little better changeing gear took arround 1.5 seconds and to few people can really drive tiptronics as it is.

In my few years of driving and the 100 or so cars I've driven that was the worst.

a big engine isnt the only thing that ups insurance mate :p

Correct, but he cant change where he lives, how old he is or how many no claims he has.

Also, the corsa isnt exactly easy to steal, replacement panels arent expensive, they dont go that fast, so arent exactly difficult to insure.

Try www.elephant.com adding your parents as named drivers.

They're not that bad for what they are, town cars. I drove one around Birmingham on Friday night, the light controls mean it takes very little effort and I didn't have to worry about where I parked it or being hauled out of it by a drunken idiot.

That said, it was a joy to get back in the Elise the next day. But therein lies the difference. The Corsa is a town car and, as the town cars I have driven go, not a bad one.

no but im pretty sure he could have found a car thats cheaper to insure :p

When the price you pay for the insurance really matters at £2k it should do..

you should really be looking at what car will cost you less to insure until you can get the NCB.. it was cheaper for me to insure the **** box ibiza over a 1.2 clio for instance.. im not sure why.. but it was

No swearing.

Something easy to drive which I can park anywhere without worrying about vandalism. Cheap to run with enough space to get the shopping in. Preferably something which returns decent economy from town driving and, most importantly, something I'd be happy driving about urban areas but wouldn't want to do a motorway trip in.

I've tried the Japanese and Korean equivilents, the Yaris, Micra and Getz, they're all some of the worst cars I've ever had the displeasure to drive. The Corsa is not without its faults, granted. But it's not a bad car. OK a Fiesta or a Polo may be a bit of a better choice, the Mini is streets ahead... But in the end its down to the individual. The world would be a boring place if we only had three different cars on the road.

Virtually every other town car is better. Thus, why buy one?

On paper.

I have driven numerous 1.2SXI's as courtesy cars, and I found it a far nicer place to sit than (in no particular order):

Micra (new shape)
Fiesta (04 plate)
Yaris
Jazz

Its not always about which is the best car, its which you get on with better. Now personally I will never buy one of the cars on my little list (including the corsa), but I really REALLY couldnt get on with any of the cars on my "worse than the corsa" list, despite them being technically better or better "value for money".

Sometimes fox you need to back down a little and see life from a perspective other than that of a textbook. ;)

I'm going to end up breaking the forum rules next time somebody posts that.

Guess what, I've driven a bloody Corsa.

And you didn't like it, fair enough. I've driven a Mondeo. I didn't like it.
