What car...oh skip that bit..here is my first car

Ok I think I'm in rant mode today so lets make it a long one.

Reading through this thread its been quite interesting seeing a lot of different views on different cars, I can understand why Corsa's, Scooby's, Clio's and other cars in that same "Chav" category have such a bad rep with a lot of people, its to do with the general type of person that these cars are associated with and what they do to them.

I'm forever tired of seeing cars like these done up with so much aftermarket kit that people actually think it makes there cars look cool and go much faster when in reality it makes them stand out and look like such a muppet for spending so much money on a car that there never going to profit from in the long run and the performance gains are minimal and no where near justifys the increase in the insurance premuim when you have to declaire all your mods to your insurers.

At 25 maybe I'm getting old and can't relate to this anymore, but I never really understood what was wrong with the principal of buy a cheap car when you pass your test and keep costs to a minimum, and save, save, save and then get the nicer car a few years down the line.

My car by no means is the quickest thing on the planet, then again its no slouch either and suprises a LOT of people when they see a ST200 Estate dissapear like it does, for me a car is about individuality, I have NEVER seen another ST200 Estate and seeing as only 75 were ever made I doubt I will, but these Corsa's, Clio's, Scooby's and the rest are everywhere and falling into the hands of young people who aren't responsible enough to own cars like most of these and unfortunately its mainly the same type of person who is buying the majority of them, the "Chav."

By adding adding a wing off a Boeing 767, a set of brakes off a F1 racing, a few stripes of paint and a sunstrip they then think their car is suddently faster and smarter and better than anyone else's then the next week their mates do it to theirs....its getting boring seeing this more and more, and then they go and take root in your local McDonals car park or KFC

But the funniest thing of all has to be one next to you at traffic lights, and again its the same types of car and the same types of people, they see a pretty quick car and they are there ready and gunning for the lights to change. Then finally when you pull away and there in the redline in 1st and I'm already gone the irratation is made up for by the cheesy grin on my face knowing I've just ticked another one off and doing it in an Estate just makes that grin so much bigger :D :D

It is a shame for the genuine type of people who own these car's and left standard they are perfectly fine, just when "Chaved" up for me its like a red flag to a bull.

Hmmm this is long....rant over I think.

Why do people keep buying these?

Because not everyone likes the same things that you and I might do. For that money I myself probably would have had a Mondeo, much better car for the same amount of money. Not a bad first car though, especially if its just for running about it and because it's FREE :D
Enjoy it :)

to the op gave my lad a t plate 1.2 16v, insurance was 1035 tpft with quinn direct(he did his pass plus so that gave him 160 off the original price.)

No, life is mixture of different opinions. Everyone is free to post them
That is true but there is such a thing as discretion, especially in cases where the car has already been purchased.

Nice car by the way, I learnt in a corsa and I've driven one recently as a courtesy car, nice little car :).

Well done, will it be coming to MM4?

Sure will, not on 4 wheels mind if its later on in the summer!

All this argument about the corsas, my god. I explained didnt I what the purpose of this car is, i dont want anything fast, anything cool, I just want a reliable, warm and dry car to get me around when its cold or wet. The bike is the main toy and the road vehicle I will use for my pleasures.

I am sorry but when people begin to slate a car my gradparents have offered to buy me for my 18th birthday because they love me then I do tend to take it a bit personally.

For what its worth, I cannot imagine a worse place than a country where EVERYONE had exactly the same opinion on things as me.

I mean, where would the cheap Mondeos and BM's come from if everyone who had Supermini money thought 'Hang on a sec..' :p
Fox, I think problems people have is you ask why people bought them, and you know why, because some people think there good compared to other cars, we know you dont, but youve also said you know other people have different opinions, so why ask "why to people keep buying these" when you know why? :p

Quoted for truth TBH IMO LOLZ :p :) :D

Ok we are getting there with the insurance guys, so far tesco have been the cheapest for me with a quote of £1750 for fully comp cover, or £1600 for TPFT.

I am going to keep trying to see what I can get it down to. :)

When my mum bought hers and offered it to me for a year i couldnt get a quote for less than 1800, it was annoying as. I had to drive it for a year without picking up any NCD.

These quotes are putting my dad down as a named driver but me as the main driver obviously.

I pretended I was 18 on testco and got fully comp for £1350, now I think this amount of saving is worth waiting for, so I think I will wait until I am 18 to insure the car anyway, it will only be a max of 6 weeks after passing my test anyway with any luck.

I will give elephant a shot (remember I have got a claim to my name from a previous accident)

I may also try putting my mum on the insurance then, i can have both on there but for the sake of £20 or whatever then there isnt much point.

All these quotes are without pass plus which I am hoping to do once I have passed my test :)

kids these days! I'm sure our educational system is failing somewhere, it used to be >> pass test first >> check out insurance quotes >> buy the ideal car

Now its totally the opposite!

Ah well, guess the car is nice, as long as it makes your happy! How long do you think you will be keeping it?

I guess you can parallell park it easier, and find those tight parking spaces which bigger cars wont fit into!

Your mum will drop it further than your dad will though!

I didnt know this, I will add my mum as a named driver, just tried it with elephant and it was a £600 saving from being on the policy on my own :)

I will give some a bell brasso, so far tesco is still the cheapest for me.

I have just had a driving lesson and my intructor has just told me that the waiting times for tests at the moment is about a week which is excellent, i could have my licence in a months time :) That gives me plenty of time to do pass plus to save me that extra 20% :)
