What did you do to your bike today?

I could cry. I love this bike to bits

Looks like the crash bung might have saved it, but it is bent back so hopefully no damage caused to the frame.

Triple lane roundabout, both left lanes go straight/left, my lane goes right. Guy in lane to my left suddenly decides he needs to be there with no indication so I ended up hitting his front right wheel arch.

Hit my head hard on the road. 24hr headache. All fine now, feel like I've been to gym for the first time in years and worked every muscle in my body.

Suzuki 650 Bandit dropped off today as courtesy bike. It's a bit meh tbh, too tame somehow. Maybe a combination of the smoothness of a 2012 bike + more fairings. It feels slow and boring :(

Hope my Hornet is not a write off.

Not too sure what happens next. They have my bike at the moment and will assess damage and send quote to insurance company. It just kind of happened like that, seemed like the best way although surely replacing the rad isn't going to cost more than the £300 excess I would need to pay (unless they find the other driver 100% at fault, then I don't need to pay excess, is that right?). Guess I'll see what they come back with. They're also testing the frame etc. to see if it's a write off. I feel like I could be extremely poor after all this.

I'd honestly rather be in hospital and come out when everything is sorted than have to deal with the insurance crap. I should probably count myself lucky I'm ok, but meh. Saying that, I've very quickly learnt to just forget about all of it until they call or I need to call them, then forget about it again. No point worrying about it. If it costs me lots, then lesson learnt, don't crash even if you can't avoid it :p

All happened 2 days after moving into my first own place lol. Go me

Sorry to hear that :(

Regarding excesses, even if you were found 100% at fault (And it sounds like it should go your way) you only pay excess if your insurance pays out anything on your bike - there is no excess from you for any repairs to his car no matter what happens.

One other thing - don't assume your insurance company is working in your best interest. If they call you up and say anything other than 'Its going against the other party 100%', (i.e. we think this should be settled 50/50, which isn't uncommon) then say something along the lines of, 'Thank you for updating me, I am neither accepting or rejecting that at this stage and will get back to you in due course' and then go get advice. If its your word against his you may have some issues, but if you have witnesses then it should be clear cut, so don't let your insurance company settle unless YOU agree with the decision.

Thanks :)

So if they find the driver at fault then I wouldn't pay any excess either as his insurance company would pay for my repairs?

It's a TPFT policy so the only way I'll get my bike repaired for no cost is if he was found at fault? Is that right?

That's correct. With TPFT the only time you would pay excess is if your bike was stolen or burned and your insurance company reimbursed you.

If you are TPFT only, the last part of my post is even more important. Your insurance company has nothing to lose by agreeing a 50/50 liability. They aren't going to make any money if the other side accept liability and they aren't going to have to pay out if it goes 50/50 because your policy doesn't cover damage to your bike. If you don't have any witnesses, I would recommend seeing if there is any CCTV coverage of the roundabout.

I doubt the frame is bent, could fix it up yourself with some cheap used bits, but hope you manage to claim off the other drivers insurance, you only pay excess if its deemed your fault ect

Went and got my puncture repaired yesterday that I received as thanks for riding into London. Lesson learned!

When he had the rear off I realised how fricking filthy the thing is, and that I need to take the rear wheel off next time I clean to get better access to shock etc.

And also fit the damn hugger.

Good night!
