What did you do to your bike today?

******* hell Fireskull! Glad you're ok fella, hope you're on the mend and everything gets sorted quickly.

Ooof! Glad you're ok - shame about the bike though - my favourite ever sports bike the K5.

Today I took a last minute day off work and actually rode my bike hard for pleasure rather than commuting. Loved it! Perfect weather, quiet roads and the ideal bike for the North Yorkshire dales.

Did a brief bike swap with a mate who has a GT1600 but I much preferred the GS. I think I just prefer a twin as whilst the 1600 was powerful it was just too smooth and refined - its how I imagine an electric bike would feel. The wide bars of the GS just make it more fun to chuck around on twisty B roads too, although a stretch on a fast A road did allow the 1600 to stretch its legs a bit and I could imagine it just demolishes long rides on major roads.....but I'll definitely be sticking with the GS

Thanks for messages all!

Had the day off work yesterday, everything still pretty stiff and sore, walking hurts!
I managed to get out and strip the bike though, I am not making the same mistake as last time and they write it off and I loose all my expensive mods!

I think insurance is all sorted, agreed on a pay out for the bike, told them what injuries I have so waiting for anything on that, and now just need to send pictures of my lid and boots to sort out a claim for those.

Salvage company has to come take the bike, check it and then hopefully give me the option to buy it back, and depending on the price and whats broken I will be buying it back and turning it into a track bike, frame looks ok, as does the forks, but one of the discs has taken some damage and possibly the wheel.

Fireskull was that the same k5 you had last year? Glad your ok. Make sure you claim for a new lid ect.

Yep same bike :(
Yeah helmet and boots will be claimed for.

Still really new to biking, so seeing pictures like that do scare me a bit!

Glad you're ok Fireskull.

Don't let it put you off, this is the first big incident in 10 years of riding where its been someone else's fault :p

Some more photos :p

Everything thats damaged (excluding the tank), the only surviving plastic is the small rear left on the seat unit!

Ouch! Hope you get it all sorted out ok, the driver hasn't really got a leg to stand on with insurance with that shot, and your video footage.

First I have to apologise. I'm sorry. And it's really harsh because if I had gone through that I wouldn't be laughing. But that picture is hilarious! (in terms of your flailing arms and legs) :)

Amazed and glad you're ok though. Even better that it's all on camera and in no way your fault.

Any reason why you're not uploading the video? How does it affect insurance??

Haha I know, firs thing my dad txt when I sent him that was 9.5 for style :D

Just incase there was any disputes its better to keep all evidence private :p
But thankfully she has admitted liability with no problems.

You know I never even thought about it being solid white!
She was travelling in the other direction and was turning across my path into a driveway

@Fireskull I put my foot down with my insurance company & wouldn't let them take my bike away, Having recovered the bike to my house myself at no cost to them & not wanting my bike laying out in the open & I want to buy the bike back asap I told them it's not going anywhere.
They sent 2 assessors (sp?) out then phoned me within a couple of days with an offer/deal.

Hmmm they didn't give me that option, said the salvage company would take it and assess the damage and go from there about buying it back.... might give them a call again and see if an assessor can come out rather than the bike being taken away....

Well until such time as they send you a cheque to pay for it it's still your property, & they can't take it any where with out your say so, them taking it away just incurs extra costs. best make that phone call sharpish. ;)

Just insist on it, I made sure not to swear on the phone but just told them the bike is not going anywhere. I'm not having it chucked in the back of a van then left out in the open in some yard lent up against countless other bikes. Because of the low value of the bike & the damage it was obvious that it would be wrote off & I told them I want to buy it back regardless.

your lucky to walk away looking at that last pic

bike looks ok though tbh considering, you can get the wheels straightened,i had mine done when I hit a kerb(that's dark visors and night time for you)

Jesus, that last pic is scary ...

Deffo buy it back as a track bike.. If not, I will buy it off you for £10 and a pack of Haribo. You can choose the flavour.

To paraphrase an old saying, any crash you can walk away from is a good crash. When I had my, and I hope only, crash in 1990 I had to lift the bike off myself as the 2 women who stopped, one had hit me, couldn't lift it up and even though i had a broken ankle I hobbled away and was damn grateful I could.

End of the day all that matters is you could walk away and come here and tell us about it.

Unfortunately it also makes me think of a friend of mine who can't.
