What did you do to your bike today?

If you stay with the recommended weight you will be carrying nothing home with you lol when I do a rally I must be 4 times my recommended weight and some :D

Yes, they'll under claim the safe weight by a fair bit to cover their backsides in the event some halfwit puts a pallet of cement in one and has an accident.

When I get mine I'll fill it to the point I don't feel safe riding the bike and then take something out and that'll be my benchmark.

It wasn't long ago I had to put a loaf of bread down my jacket and when i got home it was a bit flat :D

I got back from my 'Ring trip last night, I had a fantastic 4 days away on the 10R.

Although I have been to the 'Ring twice before those trips were in cars, this was the first time on a bike. It's a whole different ball game, so much more demanding / scary.

I did 8 laps over 2 days and they were a mixture of good and bad with some being just damn right **** scary. On the first day (a Sunday) it was stupidly busy and I spent more like looking in my mirrors for rapidly approaching 911's and M3's and to be honest I didn't enjoy Sunday at all, I just couldn't concentrate on my own lap and focus on getting the lines right, it was just to busy.

The next day was A LOT better, as a lot of people were now back at work. The track was much quieter and I enjoyed every single lap I did that day, the weather was also fantastic. My times were around 8:50-9:15 (BTG) which is not to bad for first outing on a bike, unfortunately I didn't film my fastest lap but here is one from earlier in the day.

Unfortunately there were two crashes in our group, one on the 'Ring and one on the roads. The guy who crashed on the 'ring was unfortunately on a 2month old Panigale! Here are a couple of pics of the aftermath (he had already sourced new handle bar and gear lever at this point) It was just about rideable home, such a shame for him.

We covered 1,200miles and all in all it was a fantastic trip, I much prefer it on a bike to a car as it is so much more involving and demands every last drop of your skill and concentration, no video or game can hammer home just how fast or scary that place is on a bike. If anyone is thinking of going I would say, DO IT!

Nice report on the 'ring man... and shame with the guy with the Ducatti... but hey, it happens...

I'm going down to the Two Wheeled Workshop in Ellesmere Port tomorrow morning. I've got my oil filter, air filter and iridium sparks and was going to do all the service myself... however, want the carbs re-done for the K&N Filter so, thinking, right for the first service I'll have given the bike, get it to these guys and get all the bike checked out... so, probably going for:

  • Full service and ALL fluids drained and new ones in,
  • All cabling lubed and checked out,
  • Find an annoying rattle on acceleration (not sure if it's body work or what),
  • Check everything else out, swing arms for play, seals etc etc, the full works,
  • Possibly re-jet and sync the carbs with new air filter,
  • Possibly replace the chain and front and rear with a -1 front and +1 rear sprockets.
  • Possibly check the shims/valve clearances (recommended at 16k, but thinking if they're fine now, they'll be fine at 16k lol),
  • Possibly slap new MOT on it, it's ok until mid October, but thinking while it's there for the cost, just get it done now...
Will speak to them down there and see what they reccomend... the bikes on 12.6k since I bought in April/May on 8921 miles so... I wanna make sure it's tip top for the rest fo the year.

EDIT: Good news, mate is coming out of hospital today and no long term damage we think... however he can't remember anything apart from day before and then waking up oin hospital...

full clean, and polish, chain stripped and re-lubed. this was down the old school way of rolling the bike until i could see a new part of the chain and then spraying it up. It has made me decide to order a paddok stand!

then went for a bit of a ride around the south, about 120miles all in. A32 - A3 - A272. just outside of Billingsworth pulled in to BP to get some fuel and there were 2 brand new McLaren mp4-12's parked up. filled her up and grabbed a drink had to rush a little but managed to get behind them and was then flanked by another 2 still with some cellophane on!! had a bit of a play then turned around to go home.

checked tire pressure. checked oil. checked coolant.

went out to the local bike dealership they had a lovely daytona 675 was really tempted but as i haven't done my big bike test yet i simply couldn't quite bring myself to buy and have it sitting in my garage for months.

Ran out of autosol so still have a couple of bits left to do on the pipes :( I like the clear rear lens liberated from a 1996 blackbird though makes a nice difference with the clear lens indicators.

Well did 250+ miles of stunning Welsh scenery yesterday with two mates... was superb... and some of the best riding/driving roads I've ever been on... superb day.

@PU7E That Honda is gorgeous BTW! Nicely done fella.

Took the baffle out the akra, sounds better and goes like stink!

Not been too hard on the bike since the rebuild and left the baffle in as it ran much better with it before the rebuild.

Now it's had a few thou to properly bed in and the new tyres are scrubbed in I've taken it out, hit 9k now and you better be holding on!

Was having a great time enjoying the acceleration then I realised I was only on about 3/4 throttle.
Need a track day!
