What did you do to your bike today?

Filled the bike with petrol and checked the air in tyres, ha..

Not really done today but got handlebars and exhaust can on the way. Looking forward to fitting them this weekend as it'll be the first 'big' job i've done on this bike.

if its really bad inside the tank, clean it out and use this to seal it

I went with kreem stuff in the end. Kits arrived and just realize it doesn't contain the degreaser. Back to the internets. Maybe tomorrow. Time is getting short to get it out back to gather and mot'd takes about two days to fix the tank and I would have liked to get it mot'd sat at the latest. Will be touch and go.

Rang my locl Suzuki garage to enquire about getting the bike service.....

£140....

OUCH:eek:

It is only a Bandit 650 k6! Oh well. maybe next month, its not really needing a service any how.

Oh and does anyone own a Yamaha XJR or a Honda CB1300?

this does mean I wont get it MOTd this week, the tank is etching which in its state requires best part of 24hours. It then needs the lining putting in and drying for 24hours as well.
I'm away all next week and weekend. So that's that, till I get back.
we'll will give me time to try and figure out how to extract a rounded of screw from the air filter. Need to try and find rubber band, or get one of those screw extractors.

I now have some RST Tractech trousers to go with my RST Pro Series jacket. I have now fully transitioned from textiles to leathers :)

Unfortunately the knee sliders are still immaculate, waiting on the sun for that.

What are they like VoG?

Basically I have been riding 3 months and I have a real fetish for a big lazy muscle bike. GSX 1400, CB1300 or XJR. (I know, would be suicide but I am not into the hardcore speed, the odd bit of fun every now and then but not crazy limit pushing and I have just joined an IAM group )

Only got the Bandit 650 which is a cracking bike and good fun but feels odd. Seating position is spot on but the bike just is not pushing my button lol (good to learn on though!)

The XJR is really floating my boat, twin exhausts and the SP colours are stunning! There is an X reg with 21k for £2700 and I am sooo tempted to go and look at it and for insurance, well its £650 and my Bandit is £450 which will come down soon as I am moving in with a friend and we have a garage (garage makes me super happy!)

@ Souleh. Nope, no chain replacement but it will cost me £90 quid to have an oil and oil filter change with no service book stamp. Think I will do it my self for ooo £50 (less if I get cheap oil!) Think I wont ever go to them again lol.

Should only cost you £30 for oil and filter! Ive been doing it after every other track day / race. Oils not a tough one to change, id suggest watching a few youtube videos on bike maintenance before lifting any spanners. Most of its very very simple and youve always got backup online if you get confused on anything.

Thats the price of the dealers sadly, expensive ink of the book stamp hehe. Atleast youre bike will be happy for a bit of oil :D

Well, my last 5 bikes have been a GSX1100, tuned GSF1200N, ZRX1100R, ZRX1200S, & an XJR1300SP, & the 1300SP is the one i enjoyed the most & kept the longest, it's also the one i regret selling the most.

It's a big old lump of metal thats great fun to ride, v comfortable, utterly bomb proof, nigh on indestructable motor, great brakes, really easy to ride in traffic, it feels a bit "weavy" in fast ( 100+ ) sweeping corners, but it's eminantly predictable & not in the slightest bit unnerving.

I mean in 10 yrs of having one, it never once spooked me, unlike my tuned GSF1200N Bandit, which gave me a brown trousers moment on several occasions. :D

As for comfort, the XJR has to be the most comfortable bike ive ever ridden, you can quite happily park your arse in the saddle for 100's of miles with out fear.

all things considered, i genuinley regret selling mine. :(

EDIT & my old ones turned up on ebay. sigh.

There is a red one with 21k miles as I mentioned before for £2700 and my insurance will go up by £200 but when i move it will come down by £100 (more like £50 after admin fees lol) and I am soo tempted BUT I have only been riding 3 months and had 1 fast ride and found that my little GSF 650 has horrid suspension and the brakes are just too weak and that the fast thing is not for me!

I am no Rossi wanna be and the fast ride was fun but I am more into the normal riding and just getting out and chilling rather than trying to focus on speed and corners and chicken strips. I have also joined the IAM and have done an assessment ride and was impressed how much they teach you and how it all works. Mind you I was the youngest there (27 years old) and some could not believe I had only been riding such a short while!

Think I might just give this garage a ring but might need to sell my bike first to get the money. Doubt they would do a swap.

What do you guys reckon I could sell my Bandit 650 for? It is a 2007 (air/oil) cooled with new spark plugs, new oil, new Avon Storm 2 ultra tyres, new R & G crash bungs and has a total of 2100 miles (yep that low). I am the 2nd owner and there are a few small marks on the tip of the tail above the brake light and a mark on the grab rail. Other than that it is nearly showroom condition. Oh and it is on the funky bright blue and it has a Fuel Oval Midi aftermarket end can.

And VoG.... You have had all the bikes I want lol.....

Well, picked bike up this week and "TheTwoWheelWorkshop" rules in Ellesmere Port. The bike now has a great induction sound from the air filter... sounds like a supercharger lol...

Check out my new sprocket and chain

It was a major service, checked all the valve clearances, spot on perfect, drained all the coolant, brake fluid, oil etc etc, replaced with quality stuff.... it's running like a weapon now, really is running quicker and smoother it's untrue... so as a summary...

  • Valve clearances checked and spot on,
  • All fluids drained and refilled,
  • All cables and brackets lubed and checked,
  • K&N Chrome Oil Filter filtered,
  • K&N Air Filter fitted,
  • SportSprox Ali/Steel two tone rear sprocket fitted,
  • Renthal front sprocket and gold chain fitted,
  • Cam Chain Tensioner checked,
  • Rebalanced the Carbs to match the air filter,
  • Front brake calipers pistons cleaned so zero grab now as I noticed a little "grab" when pushing the bike out the garage

Have to admit, well happy for once with a service, it's like a new bike now... I've got some black anodised sprocket bolts on their way as the old ones kinda spoil the effect a little...

I'll try and get a better picture in the light to show the rear sprocket off as this was done late at night and looks nothing like it does in the flesh... awesome.

If it's not too cheeky, how much was that service pugheaven? Sounds like it's had all the areas checked over and is good for another 5-10k miles.

Found out I need to change my engine oil and replace the fuel filter on top of everything I've got to sort out, yay...

Well, basically I supplied the K&N Oil Filter, K&N Air Filter, The Spark Plugs... the two sprockets and the chain... and they did the rest... £244 all in... which I thought was spot on... that includes their major service.

Sat and watched mine loaded onto the back of a recovery truck for the 3rd time since owning it!

Battery charging again, alternator is the culprit according to Mr RAC. Unfortunately while on the back of the truck the bike decided it needed a lie-down taking out the footpeg and scuffing one of the side fairing panels.

I'll evaluate it in the daylight, but that will have to wait til I've moved house which is happening tomorrow.
