What did you do to your bike today?

Short shifting is when you change up gears very early in the rev range, well before the engine is in its power band.

It keeps power down to avoid causing issues in the wet, and avoid any loss of traction.

Checked the start of the video again and you're right. It never did that when I rode one!

Just use a waterless wash instead, that's what I do and I have got a jet wash.

What products do you use? But surely you must use jetwash and some de-greaser on the wheels? I can't imagine using just waterless wash on the lower bits where it gets really dirty.

I use Autosmart tango myself but demon shine make a proper waterless wash which you can buy from most places. I don't jetwash anything as the waterless washes are designed not to need anything like that. I mainly use detail brushes on the Duke since there isn't much too it.

I don't think it will remove any chain lube that's been flung though but for that I just use a microfiber with neat tango sprayed on.

Got my bike back and it's ok just cosmetic damage but now I have heated grips, how have I lived without such luxury for so long?
They feel huge though, I was kinda hoping they'd be the official Honda ones but for the price I paid I should have known. Now I just need some handlebar muffs, won't look cool but I'm not sure I care about that anymore.

Yeah when he pulls away right at the start, he's short shifting there, and it still pops. Sounds awesome in real life :D

This is perhaps a better video, you can hear it does at all rev ranges.

As Kreee has said, shortshifting comes from a racing term, where instead of using the full revs the driver/rider shifts early, or 'short' of the normal rpm.

Managed to grab my self a set of refurb calipers for my 650 for £70 which I thought was a bargain as it would cost me around just that for the parts.

Also got a front master cylinder rebuild kit to go along with the calipers so hopefully my brakes should be in top notch condition. Also going to give my disc bobbins a clean too, some of them look rusted up.

That may be, but it still pops. Like the s1000r and RR do, must be something BMW are doing with the fuelling.

It does it when you throttle roll off also, usually a sharp release.

heavy acceleration QS usage does it, the ECU cuts ignition for the change and you get the almighty BWAP. Does it on the stock cans also.

Been spending more time looking at A2 legal bikes that I like and struggling to decide between a fully faired SV650, Er6f or XJ6. All will fit me relatively well at 6"4 according to cycle-ergo... Such tough decisions! :p

ER6F seat is pretty low, at 6ft4 wouldn't you be better of with an adventure bike? The XJ6 seems pretty small too, and it expensive compared to other bikes... is it because it has an engine from an R6? P.s. I know its been modified and its not the same. ;)

A bigger bike like that would be logical but I just can't stand the look of any of the adventury type bikes on a2bikes.co.uk

I'm struggling with 6ft1 height trying to get something comfy for my legs. This is one of those very few times I wish, I was a midget. :p

I'd rather be slightly too tall for a few bikes rather than not being able to ride a lot of the adventure bikes because I couldn't flat foot them. Sat on a Multistrada at the weekend and could easily flat foot it at 6ft 3, but if I was under 6ft I'd be n tip toes I reckon.

In all seriosuness, what copper on the street knows the difference between an A2 bike and an A class bike? Or is it more to do with the insurance side of it?

None do as there really isn't a difference beyond the power being restricted. If you went the 2 years without an accident you could get away with an unrestricted A2 bike and be perfectly fine.

Unless you get caught speeding at 100mph plus, might be difficult to explain away

Or accelerating extra fast from lights ect

In that case I think it's obvious that the bike isn't restricted, considering even a full license holder would get a spanking for that :p

If you think about it though, you have no L-plates and as long as you aren't built like Maradona (other small people are available) they'd have no reason to suspect you of riding without restriction

I just wonder if when you say to your insurer that you only have an A2 license, but you want to insure an R1 whether alarm bells start ringing. They would surely be clued up to that sort of thing?
