What did you do to your bike today?

I just wonder if when you say to your insurer that you only have an A2 license, but you want to insure an R1 whether alarm bells start ringing. They would surely be clued up to that sort of thing?

Depends on your age, I reckon over 25 would be fine in that case. Under 25 still get completely shafted.

Someone over 25 who has just passed their licence could get insured on a litre sports bike for a similar price (probably less tbh) as me and I've had my licence 3+ years with 4 years ncb. Makes sense, right?

You can't, A2 license bike requirements state that the bikes factory power can't be more than 94bhp and 0.2kW per kg whilst the bike has to be restricted to 35kW in other words 47bhp.

Age 33 when I passed my test, and ANY 600cc sport bike (even £1500 of GSXR SRAD 600) was in the region of £1300-£2000 fully comp. A litre sports bike would have been around £2000.

I can't insure a modern litre sports bike with a years riding and 1 years NCD for a decent price (i.e. under a grand) - naked/adventure litre bikes are fine, as are older (2004 R1 for example) but modern sports bike and new riders mean $$$$$$ for insurance.

Was £800ish when I first insured my zx6r,think I was 20 or 21

Real rip off though insurance,I know it got cheaper later, now its around £100

I'd rather be slightly too tall for a few bikes rather than not being able to ride a lot of the adventure bikes because I couldn't flat foot them. Sat on a Multistrada at the weekend and could easily flat foot it at 6ft 3, but if I was under 6ft I'd be n tip toes I reckon.
True, but I'm not a fan of adventure bikes. I'm more into supersports and sport tourers for trips. In town its naked and or supermoto for me... I guess my average height isn't that bad, but some people under 6ft have better comfort on the bikes that I like.

In all seriosuness, what copper on the street knows the difference between an A2 bike and an A class bike? Or is it more to do with the insurance side of it?
None, its just the bikes that have above 94bhp from stock that he can take legal action against you during a normal check up. Apart from that there's no way of telling, well... apart from the throttle twist as A2 blocked bike throttle twist is a lot shorter.

Unless you get caught speeding at 100mph plus, might be difficult to explain away

Or accelerating extra fast from lights ect

4.5-4.8's on 47bhp MT-07, the stock 74bhp model does 0-62mph in around 4.0-4,2's, not that much a of a difference is there? You're mostly sacrificing the top speed and some of the power bandwidth that's in the higher RPM's, not the case with V-Twis tho. :p

Oh yeah and I drove in today again as it was swimming weather outside, and I'm a really impatient driver now  Stuck behind dawdlers doing 40mph in a 60 zone and braking for no reason what so ever - on the bike I'd be past them at the first available gap, but in the car you're left to suffer...:(

*checks weather for tomorrow...

8:00am - sunny
5:00pm - sunny!

Thank you god of weather and bikers!!!! :D No more suffering in the car for me this week!!!

Middle finger to the weather, when I'm working its sunny or when I'm in college, on my 1 day off it always rains for the whole day...

Edit

Going to go down to my local mechanic where the bike got fixed and ask him for a quote for some Michelline Pilot Street tyres or Metzler which ever will be cheaper... The tyre I've now are no good. £120 (oponeo)+£40 fitting, £20 fitting when I buy from him but not a clue how much the tyres will be tho.

BTW I'm still fighting with Tyreleader to get my money back, the bank is doing the paperwork to revert back the transaction ehh... I hate ordering from Germany always some kind of problems...

Sidi black rain evo i have atm, bone dry in huge downpours

Second pair I've owned I've owned various cheap boots and rst boots nothing comes close or lasts as long as the sidi ones

My waterproofs are good at keeping me dry, but my RST boots are rubbish. In shower rain they're ok, but as soon as it gets heavy they're soaked...

My RST's were like that. Replaced with Daytonas and perfectly dry no matter the weather now.

Decent kit means you can commute in all weather. I only take the car if I've got to lug stuff about, or if I'm going to the train station and on to a meeting somewhere

That made me curious. I would have probably bought a new bike had this year not gone so badly and quite like the look of the Honda CBR650F, did a quote and the cheapest for me, a 34 year old new rider is £1430:eek:

I bought second hand gear earlier this year as I was losing quite a bit of weight and am consistently broke. My Hein Gericke Sheltex Jacket is just brilliant in the wet and my Bulletproof Textile trousers kept me dry today. I'm very happy with my Spada boots, I road slowly through a small lake today and really expected my feet to be soaked, they surprisingly weren't. All 3 items together cost me less than £80 which is pretty amazing as at one point last winter I was seriously thinking about spending close to £1k on Rukka gear.

And that's not even a proper sportsbike!! I was getting quotes of £1500 fully comp for a £3000 triumph Daytona 675. Practically the same bike, but as a naked bike i.e. the street triple - £500.

Sport bike + new rider = no chance! Sport tourers are fine, a 2002 CBR600F was around £500 as a new rider too. However I'll stick with my under £100 a year insurance CB400 thanks :D

I'm also 34, and as of the 15th October will have had my licence a full year. Time has flown since I did my test! Got a years NCD sitting doing nothing from my 125 and will have a years NCD for a separate policy come end of December too, so that means I can have 2 bikes both with a years NCD on them.

I need to nikwax my textile suit again - though even then it gets soaked in heavy rain. Easier just to wear lightweight waterproof hiking over jacket and trousers over the textile suit rather than have sodden textiles against the goretex liner. I'm considering just getting two-piece leathers and using the waterproofs when needed.

Problem is I had a bike stolen so no NCD for my 1 year anniversary in November. :(

They're awesome, a lot nicer than the blackbirds but then the price reflects that.

I'm currently weighing one up against a zzr for a touring bike.

luggage options seem incredibly limited though for a sport tourer, no givi top box without buying the bmw plate (which is only meant for soft luggage support not a top box) and drilling holes etc to mount the givi plat.

the bmw bags wont fit a helmet apparently or only just when fully expanded.

and people say theyre fairly viby at times

check a cbr600 f4i from 01 a better bike and will be cheaper.

weirdly my vfr cost me 350 to insure with 3 points, 1 total loss, theft claim and 1 total loss 50/50 accident claim :p

well it's fully comp you've got to remember is you so much as scratched that £1500 srad and claimed it would be a write off.

same with most bikes an your first year you're likley to do more than scratch it lol

I didn't get a long enough ride to comment on the vibrations.
